About Us: Nadim

Here’s the third installment in our very serious, very in-depth 2012 About Us Interview Series. Ladies and gentlemen, the man so famous he needs just one name: Nadim!

Nadim reviews Nikita and Revenge.

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

I live in Beirut, Lebanon (that's in the Middle East for those of you who have no idea). As for my day-job, I'm a copywriter at TBWA. So basically I work on ad campaigns and write storyboards for a living (using my film school experience). So thankfully, not the worst job in the world.

If we just handed you a million dollars (you never know), what would you spend it on?

I'd buy every single season of all my favorite shows and have a trophy/showcase room built to display each of them in luxurious fashion that gives each of them their due.

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

I'm a BodyCombat addict. For those of you who have never tried this fantastic class, you should immediately try it out at your nearest gym.

[Editor’s note: I don't know what BodyCombat is, but I do know that answer officially makes Nadim our coolest, and most intimidating, writer.]

Are you a dog person or a cat person, or is there another animal involved?

Definitely a cat person. My lovable cat (more like a little brother) is 13 years old and truly part of the family. I love felines and their snobby disregard for their owners' feelings. Obviously, we have a love-hate relationship.

What show would recommend everyone finally get around to watching this summer?

The best show nobody is watching at the moment is undoubtedly Nikita. It's now cemented itself as a perfectly thrilling heir to Alias.

Of all the shows we don't cover, list your: (1) guilty pleasure, (2) favorite reality show, and (3) favorite from childhood.

1. Guilty pleasure: 2 Broke Girls. This is the worst show I've ever seen in my life and yet I can't stop watching this horrendous mess of a production. Kill me now.

2. Favorite reality show: Survivor by far. I've been watching it since 1999. It's pure epic awesomeness.

3. Childhood favorite: Captain Planet & The Planeteers. I still listen to the theme song on my iPod.

Fill in the blanks: If ___ weren't already reviewing ___, I'd want to do it.

Josie and The Vampire Diaries. But I review it for my own blog so it's not so bad ;)

Which character do you identify with the most?

Chandler Bing from Friends. Same insecurity-infused sarcasm.

[Editor’s note: How can he feel insecure? He enjoys a sport called BodyCombat!]

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top five will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

I love too many shows, but emotionally I'm most attached to these:

1. Alias
2. Dark Angel
3. Desperate Housewives
4. Charmed
5. Brothers & Sisters and Grey's Anatomy (I really can't pick)

You are hosting a dinner party for 8 TV characters and/or actors. Who would you invite?

Wilhelmina Slater (Ugly Betty)
Don Draper (Mad Men)
Nina Van Horn (Just Shoot Me)
Ellie Torres (Cougar Town)
Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)
Gabrielle Solis (Desperate Housewives)
Buffy Summers (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
Cameron Tucker (Modern Family)

Damn that's one epic dinner party.

Next week: Paul Kelly!

  1. Haha my love for BodyCombat sure provided you with a lot to work with. You really must give it a try Josie, it's practically in every gym worldwide!

  2. Great to get to know more about you, Nadim! We have such a geographically diverse group of contributors. I love it!

Damn, that is one intense dinner party. The exact opposite of my "no drama" approach. I'm not actually sure one room could handle that many narcissistic drama queens! Do you have a lot of space? :)

  3. Great answers, Nadim. I feel like I got to know you a bit better.

I agree with Jess. Your dinner party would be worth attending just to watch the drama unfold!

  4. These are so much fun to read. And now I know so much more about Nadim. I also have a snobby 13-year-old cat (named Spike, guess whom I named him after) who walks all over me and does exactly as he pleases. Coincidence? I think not!

  5. OMG !

You live in Beirut (YES, I know where it is). A tough place to develop a though character. I live In Montreal, but hey, let's admit it, what happened here in the last few weeks is a quiet picnic on a Sunday afternoon compared to your city (since the 70's. Oh boy, I'm still flabbergasted LOL)

Don't wanna be a pest, but this is fun and we should ADD more questions !

PC or Mac ? and why ?
Strek or SWars and why ?
Joss Whedon or Bryan Fuller and why ?

  6. Haha I'm glad my dinner party guest-list filled with psycho narcissists has amused you guys so much.

Billie we really must introduce our snobby felines. I have a feeling they'd get along quite a bit.

And celticmarc, yes Beirut is quite the crazy place. But amidst all the turmoil, it is possible to live a semblance of a normal life (that is if you can handle the periodic car-bombs and bloody protests). We Lebanese are quite the resilient bunch.

  7. Great read, Nadim.

I'm surprised Buffy didn't make it's way into that list, though!

Love your choices for the dinner part as well, I wish Gaby could have been my stand-in for one of my other guests!

  8. It's so weird Panda but I really can't explain why Buffy isn't in my top 5. After all, it was probably the first show I ever loved... I guess there's something missing with regards to my emotional attachment to the show. Go figure.

  9. Hey Nadim, I misread one of your answers and though "Josie and The Vampire Diaries" was an actual show. If it isn't, then it should be. I'd pay to see that.

And I totally agree with you on Nikita. It went from being the show I eventually watched, to the show I watched before Supernatural.

Now let's get our heads together and come up for a pilot script for "Josie and the Vampire Diaries". I say we go vampire noir...

  10. Hahah Paul that sounds like a genius show (and the name has a nice ring to it). Let's get right on it and make Josie a star ;)

  11. Yes, please!

Can I be an awesome fighter with a heart of gold, like Sydney Bristow?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Agreed with Paul. Rachael Leigh Cook doesn't seem to be working, I'm sure she'll be up to it. And she did rock out with Tara Reid, so I'm assuming she has knowledge of working with the walking dead.

    Gosh, that was bitchy.

Great answers, Nad, and joining the "never heard of BodyCombat but sexily intrigued" chorus.

  13. Buffy and Damon at the same dinner party? Could end in violence! :p

And I've never heard of Body Combat either! Maybe in Spain it has another name...
