Doux News: January 13, 2013

This week: Hope for Community? -- The return of Sarah Michelle Gellar (again) -- Big Bang Bugs -- Nathan Fillion does a Billy Crystal -- Revenge goes Torchwood -- the return of Twin Peaks? -- And so much more.

Greetings faithful readers, and welcome to this week's thrilling instalment of Doux News!!! I'm manning the fort this week, but I got a lot of help from the other writers and would like to give them all a shout out. You guys are the best. Right, now that's out of the way, on to the newsy stuff.

Earlier this week it was widely rumoured that Twin Peaks was about to make a comeback. It was reported that co-creator David Lynch had been in talks with NBC about producing a revival of the classic 90s series. This is all news to the executives at the peacock. They haven't spoken with Lynch, nor had any interest in bringing back the series. But they do now.

As we continue to wait for the start of Community's much anticipated/dreaded Dan Harmon-less fourth season on October 19th February 7th, NBC’s entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt is offering fans a glimmer of hope that the struggling series could still see a fifth season. Speaking at the TCA press tour, Greenblatt said that Community could “absolutely” get a fifth season. It's not much, but at this point I'll take whatever I can get. In the meantime, please feel free to enjoy this little beauty:

Netflix has confirmed Arrested Development‘s much anticipated fourth season will be released in May. The Bluth's comeback season will consist of 14 episodes and all will be released at the same time.

Looks like Sarah Michelle Gellar isn't letting the failure of Ringer get her down. She's currently circling an untitled sitcom for Fox about two moms and their hijinks while their children are off at school.

The CW is looking to develop a Vampire Diaries spin-off centred around Klaus. The potential series will see the original vampire relocate to the French Quarter of New Orleans and become a vampire detective. Or not, I don't really care as long as it gets him out of Mystic Falls. Although with him gone, there will be nothing to stop Caroline and Tyler being together. Dammit! Phoebe Tonkin, and her wandering accent, will co-star.

Dexter's eighth (and possible final) season will return a little earlier than usual. Showtime have decided to move the start date forward to this summer to help launch the network's new series, Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber. The network has also given the greenlight to Penny Dreadful, a supernatural period drama from Skyfall duo Sam Mendes and John Logan.

John Barrowman has been injured after falling off a pantomime horse during a production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Next time use a stunt double, John.

Speaking of Torchwood stars, Burn Gorman (Torchwood's Owen Harper) has managed to nab himself a recurring role on Revenge. With Barrowman on Arrow and Freema Agyman on The Carrie Diaries, former Torchwood actors seem to be slowly infiltrating US television one show at a time. How long before PC Andy replaces Mark Harmon on NCIS?

Nathan Fillion can now add 'Awards Show Host' to his already impressive resume. The actor formerly known as Mal Reynold has been chosen to host the west coast show for the 2013 Writers Guild Awards.

The Big Bang Theory has inspired the name of a new bee species, the Euglossa bazinga.

And finally, due to massive cost and some serious design flaws, it looks like the Obama administration will not be making a Death Star any time soon. Instead, they will use the country's massive defence budget to build a fleet of Star Destroyers because they are cheaper, better designed and just generally cooler. And on that note, I'll leave you with a reminder of why John Williams is your god.

  1. And Jensen Ackles is going to be a dad in the summer. I think the Supernatural fandom has dubbed the baby "Backles", to go with "Padababy."

  2. Best of luck to Sarah..let's hope it's better than Ringer..
Klaus-spinoff--oh no..I don't want him redeemed..he's better off as a villain..Unless they plan to keep him evil. Give Caroline a better love interest than Tyler anyhow..Stefan? I would like that.

  3. All Hail John Williams!

A fleet of Star Destroyers would definitely be more useful than a single Death Star... That was a brilliant response by the White House people by the way!!! :o)

  5. I love having Klaus in Mystic Falls, I don't want him running off to a spin-off! Also, he's surely too evil for a spin-off centred on him to work? And I was hoping Phoebe Tonkin's character was destined for a horrible death...

  7. The Death Star response is one of my favorite things to come out DC in a while. Glad to see people there still have a sense of humor.

    Great edition, Mark.
