This Week: The Sun Never Sets on Doctor Who – This Week in Casts – Dennis Farina – Dude! – Flowers in the Attic – Game of Thrones Dreamcast – This Week in Bears

The Sun Never Sets on Doctor Who

To avoid spoilage for the upcoming Doctor Who fiftieth anniversary special, the BBC announced that the episode will air simultaneously around the globe. That means it will air at 7pm in Britain, 2pm in New York, 11am in LA (so early!), and a shocking 6am in Australia, which just seems unfair. Then again, the Aussies do have kangaroos, so maybe that makes up for it.

This Week in Casts

• Vaughn from Alias (whose real name is Michael Vartan) has been cast as a potential love interest for Vera Farmiga on Bates Motel.

• Indira Varma, who has been in everything from Luther to Rome to Torchwood, will play Ellaria Sand in the fourth season of Game of Thrones.

Dennis Farina

Dennis Farina, who was in a billion things--including Law and Order--passed away in Arizona this week at age 69. Farina was a police officer in Chicago for 18 years before being discovered by Michael Mann and switching careers.

Dude!

The Florida Lotto got up to $41 million, which is impressive. But perhaps more impressive—wait, no: definitely more impressive are the winning numbers: 04 08 15 16 32 52.

Flowers in the Attic

The Lifetime channel is slated to begin production on an adaptation of VC Andrew’s Flowers in the Attic, the completely trashy incest romance novel that took my junior high school by storm. Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn have both been cast.

I am absolutely delighted by this news, and can't wait to watch an update of this trashy, trashy story.

Game of Thrones Dreamcast

Mark Greig—who really does find the strangest things online—clued me in to the beauty that is this Game of Thrones genealogical tree/dreamcast. I suppose there could be possible spoilers lurking there for folks who haven’t read all the books, but I think you’ll do okay. And the first person to spot James Marsters gets a dragon!

This Week in Bears

Doux Reviews has readers all over the world, so many of you might not realize that LA isn’t all starlets and Botox. We also have a serious bear problem. That is, bears invade the suburbs and eat suburban trash. The most well-known bear went by the dual nicknames Glen Bearian and Meatball, and has his own Twitter account with over 15,000 followers.

This week, a mama bear out-cuted Glen Bearian. After one of her cubs got stuck in a dumpster, Mama tried as hard as she could to get it out, with a little assistance from a second cub. Sadly, bears do not have opposable thumbs, and emergency (human) personnel were called to the scene. And they all lived happily ever after, as you can see from this adorable video.

  1. 6am here in Australia? Is this because Australia gave Prince George a crocodile as a gift? Do they mock us?
    Probably.

I am really excited for Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand. It's like a mini-ROME reunion, minus James Purefoy and Kevin McKidd.

    I FOUND JAMES MARSTERS!
Now, where is my dragon, Josie?

  2. Indira Varma vill be awesome. I'd love to see Eva Green in GOT but not sure as who..hmm. She rocked as Morgan in Camelot..but the show really sucked.

  3. Morgan, your dragon is on his way. He's swimming (to avoid Customs) so it might take a while.

  4. Oh, bears. The reason no one in my area has a pool.

  5. Who in their right mind would play the LOST numbers? I am very interested in how this will play out for the winner.

  6. Yeah, I would have played Lost numbers if I thought they'd ever win but I just thought it would be SO FREAKING UNLIKELY. Who knew?

  7. 4 of the 6, hopefully the winner won't have terrible bad luck ;-)

Really looking forward to seeing Indira Varma on GOT. Great choice.

  8. Well that would be about the only thing that would get my 15yo daughter out of bed at 6am. Dr. Who. Can't wait to give her the news Hah, Hah!

  9. Actually after reading the BBC blurb, I now realise that we in Perth will be watching it at 4am, wonder if 15yo will still emerge from the darkness. I expect so, she is a Dr. Who fanatic.

  10. FreoFanatic, I wonder if she'll just stay up all night? That's what I would do at that age.

In fact, that's what I would do at my current age, too. :-)

  11. I'm not sure how I missed this bit of Doux News, but .. I am glad that I found it!

I had not heard the news about Indira Varma (I don't know how this happened either, usually I am so on top of these things), but I think she looks perfect for the role.

That Game of Thrones Dreamcast is fantastic as well.

For some reason, half of my posts on this website don't seem to work .. Hopefully this one won't vanish into the ether as well.

  12. Hi Daniel,

We did lose one of your comments to the spam filter a while ago, but Billie rescued it unharmed. Let me know if you're having any trouble leaving more comments.
