The biggest shock for me is that Nathan Fillion did not receive a nomination. His show and his co-stars received several, but he did not. Considering that he won last year, this is an astonishing omission.

Some of the categories amused me as well. Series We Miss The Most? Really? We're going to hand a producer an award for a show that has gone off the air? And, check out both New Show categories. The game is to find the shows that were not on the list.

What do you think? What is the good, the bad, and the ugly? And, be honest, will you vote? I probably will, but only so I can write in Nathan Fillion.

  1. I mostly just looked at the television nominees, because I don't keep very current on movies and music. The way they break down the categories for the awards is interesting. The separate categories for network, cable, and premium cable (in some cases) caught my eye. I wonder why they also didn't separate the actors for cable vs. premium cable. So that they could include unique categories like "anti-hero," "bromance," and "gal pals"?

Do you know anything about who cooks up these nominees? Is it "the people" or the group that sponsors the awards? Do "the people" just vote later? Because some of the television nominees are kind of weird. Beauty and the Beast, as best sci-fi/fantasy show? Really? Doesn't it have a miniscule audience? Something like Arrow would seem to make more sense there.

Also, since when is PBS considered a cable channel? Shouldn't Downton Abbey and Maggie Smith be included under the "network" fare?

And who put Rick Grimes in the "anti-hero" category? That one made me laugh out loud. That character is a "flawed heroic" type, not an anti-hero. Why not put Jax Teller in there instead? Sons of Anarchy made the cut elsewhere. Maybe we've had such a glut of anti-hero dramas in recent years that people don't really understand the term any more.

  3. At least the People's Choice acknowledges that science fiction and fantasy exists!

  4. The People's Choice Awards are always the weirdest to me. The categories, the nominees; it all just feels so arbitrary. It's so bizarre that legitimate critical darlings like Breaking Bad are nominated along with certified stinkers like Beauty and the Beast (apologies to BatB fans).
