Doux News Shows: December 8-15, 2013

This Week: Psych -- Cancellations -- Sesame Street -- Doctor Who -- Community -- House of Cards -- Some New Show Reviews -- This Week in Cats

First things first. Why did I choose a Happy Birthday kitty picture? Because. All of us have celebrated birthdays this year, so this is to commemorate them. Whenever in the past year you have celebrated your big day, I hope you did so with style.

The New Shows color code: red means don’t bother; blue means maybe; green means good; magenta means great.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8
Bonnie & Clyde (A&E/Lifetime/History)
The story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow is fascinating and is one of the great American tales. It’s hard to imagine getting this story wrong, but this miniseries figured it out. The acting is pedestrian, the directing is run-of-the-mill, and the script is so full of clichés that it’s just aching to have a drinking game developed around it. Give this a miss.

Dude, You’re Screwed (Discovery)
Holidaze (ABC Family)

MONDAY, DECEMBER 9
Psych will launch its ten episode eighth season on January 8, in London! If you can’t wait until then, a special two hour musical episode airs this Sunday, December 15th, at 9:00 on USA.

Two shows are done. Friday Night Lights, although it has been off the air for a while, has been rumored to have a movie in production. Peter Berg confirmed this week that it won’t happen. At the same time, we learned that Californication has been cancelled by Showtime.

Six By Sondheim (HBO)
A superb documentary that uses six songs by Stephen Sondheim to illuminate both the man and the artistic process. As a fan of musical theater, I was riveted by this. Even if you are not, give this a chance. One of the best documentaries of the year.

After Shock: Heidi and Spencer (E!)
Entertainment Tonight Presents: Britney Blowout (TVGN)
The Great Christmas Light Fight (ABC)
One Direction iHeart Radio Album Release Party (The CW)
The Sing-Off (NBC)

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10
If you haven’t caught up with the Sesame Street parodies, you have missed some of the funniest clips on the Internet. They have skewered everything from Homeland to Downton Abbey, but the newest is The Lord of the Crumbs. For your viewing pleasure, here you go.

American Country Awards (Fox)
Tequila Sisters (TVGN)
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (CBS)

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11
Matt Smith’s final outing as the Doctor will air Christmas night. In case you haven’t seen it yet, here is the trailer:

Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale (NBC)
Rodeo Girls (A&E)

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12
Community returns January 2nd.

Can you believe it? Not a single new show is airing tonight. I think this is the first time this has happened since I started doing this column. It must be the holidays.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13
House of Cards will launch its second series on February 14th. And, yes, I will have the first series reviewed by then… The first trailer has been released:

Another Day/Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis (Showtime)
A concert celebrating the music of the film that has just been released widely after winning just about every accolade possible on the film festival circuit. If you are a fan of folk music, don’t miss this. I loved it and found myself singing the songs long after I had deleted it from my DVR.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14
Christmas on the Bayou (Lifetime)
Hats Off to Christmas (Hallmark)
Mustang Millionaire (National Geographic Wild)
Outrageous 911! (TLC)
A Snow Globe Christmas (Lifetime)

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15
It really must be the holidays, because no new shows premiere tonight either.

But, for This Week In Cats, we’re skipping cats and going straight to puppies again. Meet Buddy, the newest member of our family. He came home on Thursday and is already making his mark.

  1. Puppy!!! Congratulations on your new puppy!

I was planning to try Bonnie and Clyde but heard the direction they were taking and decided against it. Glad I did.

Those Sesame Street parodies are a riot.
