Once Upon a Time: The New Neverland

“There’s more to life than just looking for the next fight.”

Being less concerned with the big rescue mission and focusing on the characters made this episode one of the strongest of the season. Having said that, it’s great to see this arc come to a head and bring with it a new twist that actually bears some sense of danger.

We all knew David wouldn’t die, and Henry would get back home, but will the town fall under the curse again? Probably not, but for the first time in ages I’m actually excited to see how the gang will escape this one. Will Pan actually cast the spell to make them forget who they are, and force them to start again? I’m not sure how I feel about that since we spent a whole season waiting for the curse to be broken, but I’m glad this drag of a plot is actually showing some bit of a spark.

I was really against this whole Henry as Pan thing, and for the most part I was right about Jared Gilmore playing a bad guy (in other words, he was terrible). What I was surprised by was how well the situation was used. Pan taking advantage of Regina and her feelings was disgusting, but the situation did nothing but good for Regina’s transformation. I really liked her explanation of her gullibility, too. She’s been desperate to get Henry back, and hearing him say everything she’s wanted him to for so long brought her guard down.

Showing vulnerability is still hard for Emma. I get why she feels she can’t just go back to normal with Neal yet. Things weren’t exactly perfect when he left in the first place so you can’t expect her to just jump right into a family with him and her son, especially if that son is acting like a pod person all of a sudden.

I’m glad Pan was found out quickly, and Henry got out of the box. If this whole body swap thing were to follow suit with the season so far it would have gone on for at least a few weeks. As much as I like the threat of the curse lying over Storybrooke, I’m still happy with the show giving us an answer one way or the other in next week’s mid season finale.

4 out of 5 curses stored in silly places

Ariel and Eric :)

Why did Henry keep Pan’s accent (and vice versa)? Did it come with the body?

Loved Snow’s Miss America exit from the ship at the start of the episode.

Mother Superior’s death had absolutely no effect on me. Maybe it wasn’t supposed to.

The flashbacks this week felt a little unnecessary, but it does seem to fit in with Snow and Charming’s choice to have another child in Storybrooke.

He Said, She Said

David: “There’s more to life than just looking for the next fight. You’ve got to look for the moments.”
Emma: “The moments?”
David: “Yes, life is made up of moments, but they’re all worth living.”

Regina: “I wanted to believe what he was saying so badly I missed all the signs. I just wanted to believe he still wanted me to be his mother.”

Henry: “I still do.”

  1. I'm sad about the Blue Fairy. I wanted the series to eventually end up revealing her to be a big bad. Dang. Maybe she'll come back? :(

  2. I don't mean this to be a "mean one" but this series traversed across my "mhey" point; causing me to remember why I sat out of TV for most of my life.

  3. I also wondered about the accents. I assume it's because the actors couldn't pull off each other's accents, but maybe that's actually how body switching would work.

I'm only catching up on the show now so I actually don't know the answer, but I'm going to guess Pan only brought Felix with him to kill him the way Regina killed her father to enact the curse.
