  1. Wow. I haven't seen *any* of them this year. Usually I've seen at least one or two. Which puts me in my usual position -- I'm rooting for Chiwetel Ejiofor because he was in Serenity, and Sandra Bullock because she's not Meryl Streep or Judi Dench.

  2. They *really* stuck to the same few movies, didn't they? More so than usual. Yikes. American Hustle wasn't even that good! "Let it Go" FTW!

  3. I had to scroll all the way down to the technical categories before I spotted a film I've actually seen.

  4. I fell asleep reading the list this morning. Granted I was lying in bed half-awake at the time but still.

  5. I don't know whether to be happy that Gravity and Her are both there, since both (if I've understood the Her publicity correctly, I haven't seen it) are technically science fiction, so yay. But they're science fiction that doesn't look like science fiction, to the point that Gravity is consistently described as 'space drama' and I'm not sure most viewers even realise it includes some stuff not quite physically possible right now.

I know I *should* go and see 12 Years a Slave. But so far, me and my brother have just not been in the mood for hours of harrowing horribleness. We're tired and depressed and not up for it. That's the one advantage American Hustle has, and is why we have seen that one! But you'd think only 12 movies were released in 2013...

  6. Juliette - I feel the EXACT same way about 12 Years a Slave. It looks amazing and I really want to see it but there is no way I'm seeing it in theaters. Too harrowing for my tastes. I'll wait for the DVD; I have a feeling I"m going to need to take breaks while watching.

  7. I’m shocked Tom Hanks didn’t get a nomination for Captain Phillips. Man, the last few minutes of the movie should’ve been enough for him to get all possible nominations. He was phenomenal.
