Spring 2014 Premieres

Neither TV shows nor Edna St. Vincent Millay need any introduction, so read on for a poem and a list of Spring 2014 premieres!

"Spring," by Edna St. Vincent Millay

To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill, April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.

  1. Of the new shows, Penny Dreadful certainly looks interesting(and of course, Eva Green *swoon*). And NBC must be thanking their lucky stars that Cuaron's getting so much attention for Gravity shortly before Believe premieres. Based on the previews, a large part of Believe's success will be based on the charisma of the girl and her chemistry with the actor playing her protector. If the audience doesn't develop a connection to her, they aren't going to care very much about her safety.

  2. Some additions for any SyFy viewers out there:

Continuum will begin its SyFy run on Friday, April 4th at 10:00 p.m.

Warehouse 13 will begin its final 6 episodes on Monday, April 14 at 9:00 p.m.

And Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge premieres Tuesday, March 25 at 10:00 p.m. It is being hosted by Farscape's own Gigi Edgley, and Brian Henson is one of the judges! I may check this one out.

  3. We're at the beginning of Continuum season two and I am loving it. I hope we'll be caught up by April 4. Unfortunately, March is going to be very busy. But I'll do my best.

  4. I'm definitely watching the Creature Shop Challenge! Not only have I been a big Muppet fan since I was a wee lad, but I absolutely loved Farscape and The Dark Crystal is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I also really enjoy Face Off, the show it will be following(one of only two reality/unscripted shows that I genuinely enjoy).

  5. I love The Dark Crystal, too! A dark, creepy, powerful story. The Skeksis and the Mystics are in the running as potential jack-o-lantern designs for this upcoming Halloween (yes, we start thinking about these things crazy early). Also, when we were expecting (both times), the hubby and I used to refer to our unborn baby as the "gelfling." We didn't find out what we were having, and when our daughters arrived, we announced it to our equally geeky friends by telling them "the gelfling has wings!"

Alright, that settles it. We're gonna have to watch this reality contest. :)

  6. Jess, in my opinion The Dark Crystal is one of the most beautiful movies ever made. The sheer artistry is absolutely breathtaking. I should really pop the blu-ray in again one of these days.

When you were changing your daughers' diapers, were you ever tempted to say in Aughra's voice, "Smells like Gelfling!"? :)

  7. No Aughra voices, but we did (and still do) bust out the Chamberlain impressions every once in awhile. "Mmmm ... gelf-ling." Our kids think we are total weirdos. As is the natural order of the universe.

  8. Jess, do an image search sometime on "Skeksi and I know it". You're welcome. :)
