Jess's Jack-O'-Lanterns: 2014

Happy Halloween weekend, all! It’s that wonderful time of year when my family expresses its artistic and geeky sides through the bizarre medium of pumpkins. Woot! We’ve been feeding the offspring a steady diet of All Things Nerd this year, which paid dividends when it came time to choose designs for the 2014 pumpkin collection. Enjoy!

Stormtrooper

My older daughter chose this design for her white pumpkin, which would have been awesome, but unfortunately the pumpkin rotted before carving time. This design still made a big impression, and was very popular with the neighborhood trick-or-treaters. (Except for the ones dressed as Jedis!)

Jawa

My youngest daughter wanted a jawa and nothing else would do. So Daddy put together a kickass design!

Yoda

My father got in on the act this year, by helping us carve Yoda. I guess after spending hours watching us carving, he couldn’t resist the impulse to try it, too. “To carve this pumpkin, you want. Mmmm, yes.”

Chamberlain (The Dark Crystal)

Once again, I couldn’t resist going to early ‘80s movies for my pumpkin inspiration, even though I knew very few would recognize the designs. Sometimes, you just gotta go with what makes you happy.

Aughra (The Dark Crystal)

I was originally going to do a Mystic to go with my Skeksi, but decided to go with the much creepier Aughra. That way, when no one knew what the design was, it would at least look suitably spooky!

That's all for this year! For those who are interested, our collections from the last several years can be seen here.

Jess Lynde is a highly engaged television viewer. Probably a bit too engaged. More of Jess’s musings on her favorites.

  1. Amazing as always, Jess! I always look forward to seeing what you all come up with. This year, in my humble opinion, is your best yet.

  3. Thanks so much, guys! They are a lot of fun for us --- we're already geeking out over ideas for next year! --- and a big part of the fun is getting to share the end results with others. It is a real treat to get to post the pics here!
