Other moments like the guy hitting his head on the glass, hard to tell, if it is real, or hallucination, or a mix, maybe he heard the banging and immagined it.

I think the Goat Man was real, he even laughs when Daniel asks, I don't think he is the personification of the devil, because I felt that the experience gave Daniel a strange peace, I think he was just a strange man. But again it's too me a matter of perspective, I am not a religious person, so to me that simbolizes how life is random sometimes, but it can be good, if we are open to things, and Daniel being lost is usually open to things. And I think he liked Goat Man and the strange night he had with him, even if at first the man seemed scary. which leads me to:

Tawney, so I have to partly agree with Teddy, she is a pretty girl, is not just Jesus Daniel is interested in, we even know this when he asks to kiss her, but I don't think Daniel was as malicious as Teddy assumed. I think Daniel was the same but opposite, to people who are dying and will try anything to survive, miracle cures and all, exept for Daniel was the opposite, he was perfectly fine with Death, he had twenty years to learn how to accept it, no, he was having trouble living, and he was in pain, and I think he saw her and how she belived and he wanted to belive too, even if he didn´t, the baptism was his miracle cure for him, maybe magically if I just accept God in my heart, all the Trauma, guilt and possible PTSD will be erased ( not because it was necessarly Tawney, I think it could have been almost anyone, and if they had treated Daniel like she did he probably would have gone along with it). And it doesn´t work, maybe beacuse of the heart break with her, maybe because it just wouldn't work. I wonder if he got the feelings confused, between the religion and Tawney.

About his family and the baptise I think and him lashing out, I think, he was felling suffocated, trapped in the house being surrounded by people, and everyone always so worried, he didn't even have privacy to masturbate in peace. And Amantha specially being constantly so worried and clingy. I love her, but he needs some freedom, to go where he wants without someone watching him. I think a lot of paralels are traced with moments in prison.

Now Teddy, I think he is a bit of a jerk, not only to Daniel, however, how would you feel if Daniel had raped and killed that girl, would you defend Teddy then? It's not too hard to put myself in Teddy's shoes in the begining, but like most people Teddy let's his fears and insicurities take the best of him. Also I think he was a bit scared to lose mommy.

I think it is interesting how the Hairdresser (Susan I think) and the guy in the Bookshop are weird outliers in the town for not minding Daniel, maybe even belive he is innocent and Teddy is the outlier with the family for thinking that Daniel is guilty. And in the end (of the first season) no one really knows, it's all their beliefs. It's what people choose to belive.

Even when Daniel gets beat up. What would you do if the guy who killed your sister got out "on a technicality". It's really hard for me to condem the girl's brother, cause I feel like in his own way he is just as f*cked up as Daniel.

I am really stumped on the statue, I feel like there is more to it, because it keeps appearing in other episodes, and it appears broken in Daniel's Coma Dreams ( if you wanna call them that, right? are they just dreams? Is the ghost of Kerwing there? IDK. I don't think it matters that much).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-21066997847308032182022-03-27T00:28:56.148-04:002022-03-27T00:28:56.148-04:00"Hey, should I stay back here with em?"
..."Hey, should I stay back here with em?"
"Nah, they'll be fine. I'm the one need the company"
Haha... he is charming enough to be the devil.

@Jess Lynde: "And, once again, Daniel responded in truly horrible fashion."
Uhh, in truly AWESOME fashion you mean?? Headline: School bully not so tough after being molested.

I'm grateful for Teddy, because his interactions are almost more surreal than the legit surreal stuff. It's just unbelievable, his honesty, I can't help but admire the fact that the guy does not hide his grievances. People who think like Teddy know better than to lend proper voice to their nasty thoughts, and they rob Daniel of any enlightening rebuttal he can come up with.

I know why Amantha and Mama weren't keen on Daniel getting baptized but all I could think of was the The Simpsons episode where Ned almost baptized Bart after they fostered the kids.
"Do you reject Satan, and his empty promises?"
Cue Amantha running "nnnNNNOOO" and pushing Daniel out of the pool only to get horribly scalded herself. But seriously it made it a little funny that she was there after the fact, looking sad.

>>"And now Teddy thinks Daniel is after Tawney, too. (Actually, Teddy is probably right about that one.)"
Well, I don't think he is anymore after the baptism. "Goodbye, Tawney." It was too bad that he approached it in such a state of agitation and unrest with the women in his family. It almost spoiled it for me, but the fact that the experience remained mixed instead of going well or poorly made the experience feel way more real to me. Thanks ...Wow, you got some sharp observations here.
Thanks for putting my thoughts into words.ΜΚ https://www.blogger.com/profile/03434115349561730148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-81026695550338626142015-09-03T19:12:16.888-04:002015-09-03T19:12:16.888-04:00Unfortunately, I can’t help with the what was real...Unfortunately, I can’t help with the what was real and what wasn’t questions, Billie. My notes say from watching the episode say, “This one really exists in that space between the knowing and not knowing, huh? Did Daniel help that man steal some goats? Did the goat man really even exist?” I guess we have to make peace with the not knowing. Just like Daniel.

It’s interesting that --- per last episode --- Daniel was able to find some measure of peace on the inside regarding “not knowing” what would come after his death. But the death, the relative timing of it, and the run of the rest of his existence was more of a certainty for him. And now he’s struggling badly to readjust to the “not knowing" of the outside world. What’s real? Is he even alive? When will death come now? He could grieve his own death before, and now he can’t. The baptism seemed not just an attempt to get closer to Tawney but to maybe find a more stable footing and some certainty in his place and path in this new world. I think he mostly wanted to share the certainty of her faith.

Tawney’s desire to believe in Daniel and to help him find comfort was so sweet and lovely. She's got such a generous, beautiful spirit; it was rather crushing to see her realize that there may be some truth in what Teddy said to her about Daniel just wanting to get close to the pretty girl.

Another week where I had a fair amount of sympathy with Teddy’s perspective until he goes and acts out like a child and pushes things too far. Those things he said to Daniel were truly horrible. And, once again, Daniel responded in truly horrible fashion. Man. These two. They really bring out the worst in each other.

Loved Janet and Amantha’s little chat on the bed. It was nice to see a slightly different tone in their dynamic this episode, and one that echoed a bit of the Janet-Daniel patter from last episode.Jess Lyndehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14165015932507376656noreply@blogger.com
