But I think you're too harsh on Charlotte. She may not love Mr. Collins, but she makes him a good wife. I don't think her decision was wrong, since she is able to deal with the consequences.Victoria Grossackhttp://www.tapestryofbronze.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-53301993963391879462014-04-10T09:06:59.612-04:002014-04-10T09:06:59.612-04:00YES! I've been WAITING for this review!
I tot...YES! I've been WAITING for this review!

I totally agree with you about what makes Pride & Prejudice such an enduring book as I am somewhat living proof of the fact that it is so much more than just a romantic comedy fairytale. I avoid most stories involving those tropes like the plague. I just can't stand the trite little way so many of them are so formulaic and predictable. Same goes for the films or television I watch - sometimes I'll make an exception for great characters - but usually I avoid romantic comedies (or chick flicks, if you will) like the plague.

Pride & Prejudice is the BIGGEST exception to this personal preference and I hesitate to even call it an 'exception' because it doesn't really fit the trope. The characters are awesome, the plot actually takes the characters on some serious twists and turns that result in realistic drama, and the satire is biting and relentless. I could read the description of Mr. Collins all day. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
