While I loved many of her books, the one I enjoyed the most was her autobiography. Highly recommended if you are a fan of the grande dame, the time in which she wrote, or are interested in the process of writing.ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10843864158239536750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-59057138531772229202015-12-26T12:21:34.463-05:002015-12-26T12:21:34.463-05:00Gus, you're alive! It might also be an allusion to The Little Prince; the whole novel has a sort of fairy-tale feel to it.

FlopHairedWuss: Yes, you can start anywhere with the Poirot and Marple novels, although Christie's skills begin to decline in the 1960s, so you may want to aim for something written earlier.Josie Kafkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17892717530356699008noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-74985397434791457702015-12-26T09:16:58.021-05:002015-12-26T09:16:58.021-05:00And Then There Were None really is a great book an...And Then There Were None really is a great book and I'm looking forward to the BBC's new all-star adaptation of it. Mind you I like the ABC Murders and the Big Four, and loved Marple in Bertram's Hotel.

I'll be checking out A Little Life. Based on the Shakespeare quote, you think?

...like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. I thought it was a show with great stuff in it, but extremely flawed.

I agree with all the rest. I ...Which novel would you recommend starting with?

I love being asked questions like this. :-)

Agatha Christie is most well-known for her repeating detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. There have been numerous TV adaptations of those many, many novels, which increases the notoriety of her most famous characters.

Yet, like Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes, Christie wound up disliking Hercule Poirot. She had far more affection for Miss Marple, although I don't agree with her on that. :-)

Christie's dislike of Poirot becomes obvious in her later novels. For that reason, if you want to read a Poirot novel, it's best to read one of the earlier ones. I'd recommend The Murder of Roger Ackroyd or Murder on the Orient Express. Christie listed both of those on her own personal top-ten list, too.

But if you don't mind skipping her famous repeating detectives, I think I'd recommend starting someplace else: And Then There Were None is a stand-alone novel that highlights some of Christie's best attributes: fast-paced characterization, excellent plotting, sharp pacing, and complicated mystery. While we could never be them, we can be inspired by them to be and do better.

I'm not a big fan of HIMYM and haven't really watched much, but personally I think Cobie Smulders is the MVP of that show. Definitely in terms of performance as she's the funniest actor on there. Based on Buffy, I would've thought it'd be Alyson Hannigan, but Smulders steals the show whenever I watch it.

I've actually never read any Agatha Christie despite meaning to for quite a while.
