When this one aired and I knew it was going to be more of the same, I turned it off, deleted it from my DVR and never looked back. Life is difficult enough without watching such horror.

My sister-in-law had a similar experience and together we bemoaned the fact that what had been promising to be such a great seres blew it. Fast forward a few years. She and I were chatting about TV shows and she told me that she was thinking of giving it another chance because her best friend assured her the worst was over. I mentioned that Billie, who has turned me on to more series than i can count, had loved it and had picked up my reviews so maybe it was worth another shot. We are both binging it through our quarantine. :)

This episode was tough. I just wanted it all to be over so we can move on to the next chapter/season. I loved the end with all the goodbyes. I'm going to miss the Scottish clan if we stay in France for a while next year.

Fantastic review!ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10843864158239536750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-73824667847987580702020-04-10T11:07:42.309-04:002020-04-10T11:07:42.309-04:00magritte, if it helps any, every season of Outland...magritte, if it helps any, every season of Outlander is different. It seems like if nobody's being flogged, beaten or sexually assaulted, then Claire is performing some painful and gross medical procedure. It makes Game of Thrones look like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.magrittenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-3489222355210330092019-10-25T08:58:08.174-04:002019-10-25T08:58:08.174-04:00Karen D, you just made my day. :) Thanks so much f...Karen D, you just made my day. :) Thanks so much for your lovely comment.Billie Douxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141769005175631213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-67065731215524699662019-10-25T08:56:28.324-04:002019-10-25T08:56:28.324-04:00I had never heard of these books or show until I n...I had never heard of these books or show until I noticed your fabulous site reviewing the series. I thought I would give it a go and am absolutely loving it. I also really enjoy reading the review after watching an episode,
The scenery is absolutely stunning and the music beautiful. I have to agree with your comments regarding the final 2 episodes of the season. I was actually scared to watch it once I realised Jamie was in Black Jacks hands. The physical violence was horrific but the emotional violence was even worse.
What amazing acting from a fabulous cast.
I am looking forward to watching the remaining seasons and then reading the books. I am currently on holidays so have my free time filled with Outlander.Karen Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17163140007439215435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-25775507006864355642019-08-07T00:48:59.392-04:002019-08-07T00:48:59.392-04:00I don't know how I stumbled across this series...I don't know how I stumbled across this series. Before I bought the first season on DVD and devoured it in a day, I had never read any of the books or read ChrisBs reviews or heard anything about Jamie or Claire at all. So these last two episode took me by complete surprise. All throughout I kept thinking that there would be a way out. A last minute, last ditch effort to save the day. When that never came and the horror unfolded so vividly, I was shocked to say the least. I own every season on DVD and have seen every episode of Outlander multiple times except these two. I can't bring myself to watch them again.

What a poignant review on a well crafted and haunting episode, Billie. Black Jack was so truly vile throughout the whole thing. The way he methodically broke Jamie down to at first convince him that Claire had abandoned him and then take her place was almost too twisted to watch. The kind of thing you want to look away from but keep watching anyway.
Claire helped physically rescue Jamie from the prison and save his hand but she did her real saving by convincing him to talk about his trauma and fear. She begged him to come back to her and even in his darkest hour, he couldn't deny her.
The two of them are what it's all about.
