It is, in its own way, a lot of fun.

I am interested in eternaleve's comment about GWTW because so much of this movie reminded me of that one. Of course it did. The former had just come out and was huge. I'm sure there was an element of trying to ride the coattails.

All that aside, I enjoyed this version. But, you're right, sunbunny. You do need to go into it with an open mind!

Great review, as always!ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10843864158239536750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-47371654554917032762013-05-09T15:22:06.345-04:002013-05-09T15:22:06.345-04:00Aha! But the only thing I remembered from it was a) in black and white, and b) Lady Catherine's interference which was really to help her nephew! I remember that was quite a shocker to me! :pCrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-71995501875025995962013-05-01T11:30:05.548-04:002013-05-01T11:30:05.548-04:00Aww, thanks a.m.!

I hadn't heard that, but it makes total sense. :)sunbunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08553429350476841139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-71923365195297755472013-05-01T09:08:02.874-04:002013-05-01T09:08:02.874-04:00The reason why the fashions in this version were s...The reason why the fashions in this version were so inaccurate were, I have been told, that the studio didn't have the money to shell out for new costume design so just used those left over from Gone With The Wind.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-38719802065446201642013-05-01T06:37:51.569-04:002013-05-01T06:37:51.569-04:00"Laurence Olivier is a creditable Darcy, but ..."Laurence Olivier is a creditable Darcy, but he is no Colin Firth."

Wow! Firth will always be my favorite Darcy, but I don't have as many references as you. That's quite the impressive compliment!

Thanks for this review, sunbunny. I will probably never see this version (I'm not a fan of classic movies) but it's fun to take a look at it through your eyes.a.m.noreply@blogger.com
