The holodeck all too easily becomes an excuse to escape writing a Star Trek story, by attending to something else instead. <br /><br />Watching Neelix put me off Voyager years ago. This kind of frustrated me in Voyager! Janeway and Chakotay made so much sense, whereas I never bought the Chakotay and Seven of Nine relationship!<br /><br />And although there might be a basis in military rule barring their relationship because he's her subordinate (but who isn't?), you could also consider him her "equal" in that he is the leader of the Maquis crew.
