The police department receiving large sums of money from a private corporation is questionable enough. But the notion that they could pull an investigation like this out from under CSIS oversight and somehow give them a mandate to do "whatever is necessary". Even in Russia, if Escher was one of Putin's personal friends, I could see their secret service being hired out to a corporation, but even there, I can't see a municipal police department being given this kind of power without the central government being involved. <br /><br />I found it pretty hard to sympathize with Kiera in this episode, maybe partly because I don't subscribe to the Great Man Theory of history. I think a fascist government very like the Nazis would probably would still have gained control of Germany if Hitler were dead.
