Loved season one, season two was ok but I liked season three better than season two :)
I really appreciate all the reviews, since they add an extra dimension to watching the show. It’s always i teresting to see what you’ve all picked up on, and a discussion about the story. So thank you so much for the reviews!
As for them ending up in America... Can one hope they find Murtough? *fingers crossed*cittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05004923761827288294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-22987216498442744052020-05-21T15:31:40.285-04:002020-05-21T15:31:40.285-04:00This was the apotheosis of a stunning season - a s...This was the apotheosis of a stunning season - a season spiced with high emotions, thrilling adventures, mystical developments, and, as usual, great love story doubled by great acting. Another wonderful and playful love scene, other gorgeous epic scenes (the big wave, the ocean hole, the "drowning", the beaches). I cannot stop being mesmerized by the how Caitriona acts with her face muscles and her eyes. Same for Sam. An episode that casts away any doubt in Claire/Jamie love for each other and bonds them again, this time without pulling them apart.Liviu Lucahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13838473380432329110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-37830143645370411302020-05-10T03:49:52.510-04:002020-05-10T03:49:52.510-04:00Fergus and Marsali were awfully cute: they've ...Fergus and Marsali were awfully cute: they've really learned from Claire and Jamie that the couple that adventures together stays together, haven't they?

(I wonder if all those guys on online-dating websites who say they're looking for a "partner in crime" are really just secret Outlander fans who are trying to communicate their fandom without losing face.)

This season--or at least the second half--didn't really work for me, for reasons I explained in an earlier comment (reactive characters). I'm in the weird position of still loving the characters while disliking the plot. Well, "disliking" might be too strong. "Not loving" the plot.

But I'm excited to see what happens next.

Oh, also: I've been meaning to say this for episodes and episodes: I love that Jamie has a bunch of guys he looks out for. It's such a great way for Highlander culture to live on, in these homosocial hierarchies of buddies.

Josie Kafkanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-64901208242600488472020-04-29T09:38:03.028-04:002020-04-29T09:38:03.028-04:00It was a somewhat strange way to finish the season...It was a somewhat strange way to finish the season, and as usual, I guessed wrong on where the show was headed. I was all ready for the plot of season 4 to have Claire (and maybe Jamie?) in the 20th century trying to stop Geillis from getting to Brianna. And I had figured (back when we first heard she and Archibald were headed for the West Indies) that the murder victim would be Margaret, though I guess she would be too old. Was not expecting Geillis to die now as it seems like it terminates the 200-year-old baby plot, unless Archibald somehow can go after her. Surely, that plotline has to lead somewhere?

The other thing that struck me as odd was that the scene in Abandawe felt like it ought to be the climax rather than the storm. Though I guess each season has ended with Claire winding up in a new place.magrittenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-86948239625030011792020-04-16T08:32:58.161-04:002020-04-16T08:32:58.161-04:00Congratulations on another great season of reviews...Congratulations on another great season of reviews, Billie. I'm enjoying them as much as the series itself.

Not crazy about this finale. Too much weirdness for me. Also, while I appreciate that more often than not the sex scenes add to the story, the scene right before the storm felt too much for me. We know they love each other; we know they still love sleeping together; I don't need to know the details. Felt a bit voyeuristic to me this time around.ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10843864158239536750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-64049655442805151902019-09-26T17:21:43.782-04:002019-09-26T17:21:43.782-04:00Katerina, very good point. But I also believe the twenty-year gap adds this poignancy, this heaviness and heft, to the story that it wouldn't otherwise have had. I wonder if the die hard book fans would love the series so passionately if she hadn't kept them apart for so long.Billie Douxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141769005175631213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-12701454373499185492019-09-26T17:06:29.014-04:002019-09-26T17:06:29.014-04:00"... she didn't want this story to be abo..."... she didn't want this story to be about child rearing."

Well, okay, except for the fact that she's the author and could have come up with any number of other interesting scenarios, e.g., Claire finds out 10 years later somehow Jamie is alive but in jeopardy and is determined to save him; she tells Frank she'll definitely be back once Jamie is safe because she wouldn't abandon Brianna; Frank agrees to let her go and help if she'll divorce him; Claire leaves a letter for Brianna "just in case" in Frank's care; she leaves, helps Jamie and can't get back for [reason]; Frank gets to be happy with his girlfriend raising Brianna; 10 years later, he still dies, and Brianna finds Claire's letter and goes off to investigate/find her, meeting Roger in the process ... I could go on. My point is, it didn't have to be one thing or the other.Katerinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06708733194258917064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-67290913201079235192019-09-26T09:01:27.942-04:002019-09-26T09:01:27.942-04:00Katerina, what you said: Two weeks later, I was c...Katerina, what you said: Two weeks later, I was caught up with all four seasons. Me too, back in July.

About the twenty year thing, Gabaldon has said why she did it -- that she didn't want this story to be about child rearing. She used more words, but that's about the size of it. Two weeks later, I was caught up with all four seasons. :)

Regarding this season three finale, I just have to say how much I love Lord John. He's definitely one of my favorite characters, and I loved the scene where he dressed down Captain Leonard while Jamie looked on admiringly. The actor is definitely making the most of the character. Let's have that spinoff from the books!

The season as a whole was all over the place, and I just can't understand why the author decided to keep Claire and Jamie apart for so long. I also have a problem with all the sexual violence, so I don't think I'll be reading the books any time soon. I initially was hooked by Claire and Jamie's story, but I've come to really like other characters, too, such as Lord John, while, I have to say, Claire's character has really annoyed me from time to time. (Going out on deck in the middle of a hurricane? Really?)

All in all, I've really enjoyed the show. I don't think I'm a superfan, but I am looking forward to season five. (And Billie, I would love to see your take of the season four episodes.)Katerinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06708733194258917064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-45370989960374511982019-09-24T15:39:59.652-04:002019-09-24T15:39:59.652-04:00Totally fueled by obsession, Mark. :) I still have...Totally fueled by obsession, Mark. :) I still have some Flash stuff to do, but I'm more than ready for a writing break before Supernatural returns.Billie Douxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141769005175631213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-16954089604146020842019-09-24T15:34:06.185-04:002019-09-24T15:34:06.185-04:0029 episodes in under two months. If I do, it will be before the fifth season arrives in February 2020. And if I do, the other reviews will still be available. We do have duplicate reviews on the site here and there.Billie Douxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17141769005175631213noreply@blogger.com
