I'm not going to say it was better, but it was lighter, which made it more enjoyable.

I love the direction they took Tony, giving him real pain but still be snarky about it. It was the perfect balance. I also love that Pepper got to be more than just a love interest and actually had something to do.sunbunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08553429350476841139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-76106523705701627082013-05-15T17:24:59.061-04:002013-05-15T17:24:59.061-04:00Just seen it in 3D. I think, given his status in the Iron Man stories, they were smart to do what they did. That, and the fact that I honestly didn't feel like the Mandarin was anything special while watching the trailers (in fact all I got was a bothered feeling trying to figure out what on EARTH that weird accent was). So what they did with him seemed completely logical, and made the character awesome in my opinion.

Aside from that, I agree on all points - Rhodey was awesome this time, Pepper was awesome. I did like this more than The Avengers though, I thought it was a little smarter, had more inventive action and wasn't bogged down by the need to have an alien invasion fight at the end (although there were still plenty of fodder soldiers to fight).

One other problem I have was that the Extremis effects were played up *just* a little too much for me. The effects were very cool, but some of it seemed to stretch it in a film about technology (as you pointed out). In particular one weird scene with Killian comes to mind.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17171152477267754603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-27189254413864900092013-05-05T06:49:35.797-04:002013-05-05T06:49:35.797-04:00I think the best one was the first one too, and I ...I think the best one was the first one too, and I wasn't totally sold on the ending of this one, but I loved the Mandarin, that was brilliant :)Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-45089683063559976062013-05-04T18:56:44.366-04:002013-05-04T18:56:44.366-04:00I also agree with almost everything you said, J.D....I also agree with almost everything you said, J.D., although I still think the best Iron Man was the first one. But this one came close. After the disappointing second installment this was a very nice return to form. I can only agree about the awesomeness that was the Mandarin and I very much enjoyed the Pepper development. Still I think they were trying to cram a little too much stuff into the movie and parts of it suffered as a result. The Maya character arc felt very incomplete and even Tony's arc felt a bit rushed sometimes. But I enjoyed it a lot nonetheless.Michal Dvorakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09047652605478282288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13727952.post-5848034707826558302013-05-04T18:09:12.573-04:002013-05-04T18:09:12.573-04:00Loved it. Hopefully they'll get him back for Iron Man 4, assuming Robert Downey Jr wants to play Tony Stark again.
