Doux News: November 18, 2012

This week: Arriving and departing shows -- This week in casts -- This week in cats -- Supernatural, the People's Choice Awards, and Misha Collins -- The Big Bang Theory flash mob

Syfy will be bringing us "power Mondays" in January. They'll be airing the first season of Continuum starting January 14, and will follow the new show with Being Human season three at 9, and Lost Girl season three at 10.

Continuum, a Canadian show, is described as a "time traveling police drama". Those four words are enough for me to give it a shot. Lost Girl appears to be getting a bit darker in season three. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

666 Park Avenue and Last Resort have been canceled. It's always sad when something that initially sounded promising just doesn't work out. Maybe 666 shouldn't have gone with that downward spiral as their chief graphic.

This week in casts

Arrow is continuing its trend of casting cool actors from our favorite shows as guest stars, with Janina Gavankar from True Blood, and (yay!) Seth Gabel from Fringe. I like this trend. This is a good trend.

True Blood has just cast Robert Kazinsky as a possible new love interest for Sookie, since we don't have enough love interests already on the show. That was my sarcastic voice.

My favorite love interest for Sookie, Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman), is being talked about as the possible lead in the new Tarzan movie. I'm not sure how I feel about that. As in, love Skarsgard, not that crazy about Tarzan. If it's good for his career, though, I'm for it. He's terrific.

Michael Collins will be guesting on Once Upon a Time.

And we have two new S.H.I.E.L.D. agents: Elizabeth Henstridge as science expert Gemma Simmons, and Iain De Caestecker as tech whiz Leo Fitz. Plus, I don't know how I missed it, but Clark Gregg will be reprising his role (from The Avengers) as Agent Coulson, which is terrific news.

This week in cats

For you Henri fanciers, Henri le Chat Noir recently granted an interview to New Media Rockstars, where he discusses his eternal ennui and increasing fame.

Supernatural, the People's Choice Awards, and Misha Collins

The People's Choice nominees are out, and Supernatural is competing for (1) Favorite sci-fi/fantasy show; (2) and (3) Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles in Favorite actors in a TV drama; and (4) Favorite TV fan following category. In the Favorite actors content, Jared and Jensen are competing with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley from The Vampire Diaries and our beloved Captain Tightpants, Nathan Fillion. Life is so not fair.

Vote as many times as you like. Voting ends December 13, and winners are announced January 9.

(You can also vote for The Avengers as favorite movie in more than one category! Come on, you know you want to.)

If you watch Supernatural, you're undoubtedly familiar with the wonderfully strange and witty Misha Collins, who plays Castiel. Before last week's episode, Misha tweeted, "The young Columbo returns on tonight's airing of the reality show about the two androgynous brothers who try to scare demons with graffiti."  After the episode, Dan checked Misha's page on IMDB, and discovered that Misha's IMDB board recently acquired 20 plus pages of ludicrous and occasionally obscene topics, including:

  • Did Misha really train a herd of wombats to clean his house?
  • If no one is around to hear it, does Misha make a noise?
  • Is the mole near Misha Collins's nipple sentient?
  • Is it true that Misha has pet alpacas named Jared and Jensen in his back yard?
The Big Bang Theory flash mob

The Big Bang Theory is one of the two sitcoms I watch. (Guess what the other one is.) So today, for your viewing pleasure...

That's it for this week. Opinions, raves, rants, questions? Post a comment!

  3. I saw Continuum over the summer and really liked it! Can't wait for season 2! :o)

And LOVED the Big Bang flashmob! FUN! :D

I really don't know how you missed out on the Agent Colson news... it's definitely old news! tsk! tsk! tsk! ;o)

  4. No offense to the newbies brought in for S.H.I.E.L.D., but if no Whedonverse actors (Coulson doesn't count since he was already a part of the Avengers' world) get cast as regulars in the show I'm going to be extremely put out.

I might try out Continuum. One of the best things about US networks picking up shows from other countries - they can't cancel them willy-nilly like they do with their own shows.

  5. Absolutely agree, Katie. I'm personally hoping for J. August Richards as Nick Fury. And can't they get Alexis Denisof in there somewhere?

  6. Oh my God! Gunn as Fury? Totally awesome idea, Billie. I think Amy Acker should join Alexis Denisof as a must-have for the series. And Fran Kranz, preferably as a Topher-esque technician of some sort.

  7. Très cher Henri

Mais bon sang que ton français est horrible ! Par contre, tu mon minet de l'Internet préféré. Sans équivoque. Qu'est-ce que je donnerais pour pouvoir te serrer dans mes bras sacrée belle bête !

    Purrrrr

(no, I'm NOT translating this) (the other line in in cattish : not translatable)

Oh, I LOVE flash mobs. And this one is awesome. Quite funny that I DON'T watch Big Bang and a LOT of colleagues are telling that I should check it out.

I miss Seth Gabel....in Fringe. But then, I also miss the Red Universe and Charlie as well.....
