Normal People (2020) is a 12-episode Irish drama from BBC Three and Hulu that adapts the 2018 novel of the same name by Sally Rooney. It tells the tender, tumultuous, frustrating, relatable, and very honest love story of Marianne and Connell. The show, while not lacking in endearing romantic moments, doesn't shy away from themes like emotional abuse, depression, sexual consent, and mental illness. Led by two powerhouse performances by actors Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Normal People is the kind of series that provides you with either a vicarious look into first love or a window to reminisce on your own past experiences. Tissues may be needed.
