Guest Writers Gone Wild (Summer Reviewing Plans, Part Deux)

Jess and Josie are hard at work planning an exciting summer of reviewing zaniness. Here's what to look forward to:

Jess is going to review Wonderfalls and, probably, Freaks and Geeks. If you haven't seen either of these great short-lived series, now's the time.

Josie is going to finish the first two Fringe reviews whenever they become (legally) available, and wrap up Season Two of Chuck. She's also going to force you off the couch and into a comfy chair by reviewing Lost-relevant books. Cat's Cradle, Flash Forward, The Stand, and the Dark Tower series are definites, but she's open to suggestions.

Jess and Josie are going to tackle the X-Files together--it's too much for any one reviewer, super-powers notwithstanding. Jess will probably start at the beginning, and Josie will probably start at the end, but it might be a bit catch-as-catch can.

  1. This calls for a big woo-hoo! We're becoming a dynasty!

  2. I'll second that Woo-hoo.

Really looking foward, been an X-Files fan since first getting creeped by 'Tooms' way back when.

Is it too much to hope that next summer someone does at least one Star Trek show, please:)

  3. I'm probably the resident Trekkie on billiedoux.com, and I decided awhile back that Star Trek was just too much to take on. I should have started reviewing it when I was twelve or something.

Do you know Tim Lynch? I don't know where his reviews currently reside but I bet they're somewhere on the net. He wrote the best Trek reviews I've ever read. He inspired me to be a reviewer, even.

I'm reviewing the J.J. Abrams movie. Really looking forward to it.

  4. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

You're right Star Trek would be a daunting task even for three or four people, eleven movies, five series (six if you include the animated one) and maybe another if Bryan Fuller gets his way (finger-crossed).

  5. I'll see your Woos and Hoos, and raise you a Yippee! I like the reviewing anarchy of our summer plans.

  6. Yay! Summer TV wasteland is officially no more. :)

I'm like where this site is heading.

A suggestion for Jess: After Wonderfalls do Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies, to complete the Bryan Fuller trifecta.

  7. For excellent Trek reviews (and Battlestar ones too) I suggest checking out your fellow plagiarism victim Jammer at jammersreviews.com

Always a very objective and in depth read, although I really wish he'd finally get around to writing the Daybreak Part 2/3 review!

  8. Been reading Jammer's reviews for ages, they are great.

Hope he finally gets around to finishing Next Gen, though.

  9. Sounds like we've got some great stuff to look forward to. Thanks so much for taking these on.

  10. Patryk, thanks for the 'Dead Like Me' and 'Pushing Daisies' suggestions. I loved 'Pushing Daisies' and plan to pick up the DVD set when it comes out this summer (gotta see those last few episodes!). Plus, I was given 'Dead Like Me' as a gift awhile ago, but haven't watched it yet. So those could definitely be a fun next project. Assuming old XF reviews don't take over my life, that is. :)

  11. Billie, is there any chance that you will review the Star Trek - Countdown (prequel to the new movie) comic?

  12. Billie, is there any chance that you will review the Star Trek - Countdown (prequel to the new movie) comic?Unlikely, sorry to say. The only comics I'm doing these days are Buffy season eight. But thanks for asking.

  13. For Star Trek reviews I always go to Jammer's and Kethinov's review sites.

I am dreading the new movie... from what I hear it's a total reboot. Why am I watching 700+ Star Trek episodes, to only have it all thrown away next Monday when I'm going to the cinema? You don't reboot a franchise 4 years after the last episode.

What if JJ Abrams' next project is a Buffy reboot? :D

  14. I loved "Wonderfalls" so good choice of a show to review. Also X-Files..yay. That should be fun.

  15. Hi Billie,
Have you watched HARPER’S ISLAND yet? Will anyone be doing reviews for your site?

    Thanks,
    Dan

  16. Hi, Dan: I'm not watching Harper's Island. I tend to watch sci-fi/fantasy and not much else and I got the impression it's a mystery. (Please tell me if I'm wrong.) We're not planning to review it.

  17. Hey Billie!!!
It's a slasher flick made for TV. I am an SF/horror disciple, so I have been loving it. I was hoping you would review it, because YOU ROCK and your insights into the shows are just awesome!!!

    Thanks!!!!
    Dan
