About Us: J.D. Balthazar

Ladies and gentlemen, here is the penultimate installment in our About Us interview series. J.D. Balthazar reviews movies, as well as Falling Skies.

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

California, no-comment (in other words I'm one of the unemployed masses).

If we just handed you a million dollars (you never know), what would you spend it on?

Fun tech toys, world travel, and the rest would be invested so I would never have to work again!

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

I can do the Vulcan "live long and prosper" hand greeting with both hands! I can also recite “Jabberwocky” (Through the Looking Glass) and Ezekiel 25:17 (Pulp Fiction, not the Bible) at will.

Are you a dog person or a cat person, or is there another animal involved?

Cats, big cats, small cats, just not hairless cats. I lived with dogs and they're fine, but I didn't really connect to them.

What show would recommend everyone finally get around to watching this summer?

Buffy, Farscape, The West Wing, The Wire, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Community, True Blood, Big Bang Theory.... wait is that too much?

Of all the shows we don't cover, list your: (1) guilty pleasure, (2) favorite reality show, and (3) favorite from childhood.

Guilty Pleasure: American Ninja Warrior
Favorite Reality Show: Chopped
Favorite From Childhood: Batman (the animated series).

Fill in the blanks: If ___ weren't already reviewing ___, I'd want to do it.

If Josie weren't already reviewing Game of Thrones, I'd want to do it.

Which character do you identify with the most?

Is it a cop out to say in a way I can identify with a lot of different characters? I guess seeing into a character's life and finding that thing that makes them real is easy for me. On a personal level, if I had to chose a character that I'm the most like, I'd have to go with Oz from Buffy (although I'm not as cool as he is) since my sarcastic voice is a lot like my normal one.

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top five will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

Supernatural is probably my favorite with Buffy a very close second. But there are others that I regard at nearly the same level. Community could very well be my favorite comedy ever; The West Wing is my favorite drama. Castle for detective shows, E.R. for medical, Game of Thrones for straight fantasy, Alias for spies, Farscape for space fantasy, and finally Fringe and Star Trek: DS9 for sci-fi (I can't chose between them).

You are hosting a dinner party for 8 TV characters and/or actors. Who would you invite?

I would've invited Dean Winchester (Supernatural) but he probably wouldn't have much fun, plus he might try to kill other members of the party. So Castiel (Supernatural) would be my choice, because I know he would have stories to tell and he'd crack me up at least once. Methos (Highlander) cause he and Cas would have a marvelous time. Sticking to two vampires, I choose Damon (Vampire Diaries) to round out my male guests, also he would give a much needed push to get the party started. Then Jessica Hamby (True Blood) because she'd be happy just to be invited. Kenzi (Lost Girl), since she'd have a blast around all the supernatural guys. Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries) because she could be both Elena and Katherine. Veronica Mars as one of the few humans, mostly because I'd want to meet her. Finally for my last guest I'd have to go with... Sydney Bristow because she could hold her own with all of them.

Next Week: Billie Doux herself!

  1. Great interview, JD!

My regular voice sometimes sounds like my sarcastic voice, too. And sometimes I'm laconic. :-)

  3. Awwwwww

JUST with that picture up there, count me as a new fan from your club. But no offence, Billie and Josie are my number ones (yes, ex aequo).

SOB ! Besides Sydney (and barely Veronica), I know NO ONE from your supper list. You'll have to wash the dishes alone. But I won't mind driving miss Bristow back home.

    Meow.

  4. Fun interview with a very interesting dinner party. Every time I read a new interview I think, "I wish I'd said that", at least twice and usually more. I also love your picture and think that Community is one of the best comedies of all time.
