Community: Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design

“Looks like someone sent us a message. A tiny, underwhelming message.”

Oh, 'Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design'. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1) It is a great return to form for Chris McKenna after the horrendous 'The Art of Discourse' and the okay 'Anthropology 101'.

2) The sheer absurdity of the conspiracy. There were so many twists and turns and back flips and somersaults that they should've seriously considered entering the script for London 2012. Everything eventually gets so convoluted that nothing makes sense. And then it goes even further becoming more and more convoluted, with twist after twist, betrayal after betrayal, gunshot after gunshot. It's like watching JFK, only not as confusing and a lot funnier.

3) This was a Jeff and Annie episode. And I think you all know how much I love a Jeff and Annie episode. I just can't get enough of the unmistakable chemistry between Joel McHale and Alison Brie. Not only do they have heat as a romantic pairing, they also play well as comedic partners.

4) Professor Professorson, AKA Professor Wooley, AKA Professor Sean Garrity, AKA Kevin Corrigan stealing the show.

5) Fluffy Town, a simple blanket fort for men that ballooned into a bustling quilted mini-metropolis with its own civil rights museum, Turkish district, trendy clubs (hi, Britta) and memorial tunnel for Pierce's mother.

6) Time Desk: The Adventures of Dean Dangerous. Probably the worst fictional book I have ever wanted to read cover to cover so badly.

7) The list of classes at Greendale's night school.

8) Dean Pelton's breakdown at the end. Jim Rash proves once again why he deserved that Oscar. Yes, I know he won it for screen-writing, but I am choosing to pull a Romney and conveniently ignore the facts.

9) Giving Pierce no lines and it no scenes.

10) Officer Cackkowski. Always nice to see you, officer.

11) The car explosion. It just isn't a conspiracy thriller without someone's car being blown up in the most unspectacular way possible.

Josie Says...

This is brilliant. It's even more brilliant because of Kevin Corrigan's role in Fringe. No, it's even more-er brilliant because of the numerous fake shoot-outs. No, it's most brilliantest because it simply is brilliant. To say anything more would ruin the joke.

Notes and Quotes

-- Want to know just how clever the writers of this show really are? Jeff, Abed, Troy, and Annie are halted in their chase by a parade for Latvian Independence. This episode originally aired on November 18, which is the day of the declaration of Latvian independence.

Annie: “A professor you invented just appears and you just blow it off?"
Jeff: “Maybe I'm a god. I should just stop ignoring the signs.”

Jeff: “I'm proud of Annie. She took to deception like Abed took to Cougar Town.”
Abed: “It's good.”

Abed: “Welcome to Fluffy Town. No smoking, no farting, no pillow fighting.”
Annie: “We're in a chase!”
Abed: “That's allowed.”

Professor Professorson: “My family name was Professorberg, but we changed it when we were fleeing from the Nazis.”

Dean Pelton: “Would that this hoodie were a time hoodie!”

Annie: “There's a conspiracy here. A dark, vast conspiracy that just may that go all the way to the top.”
Jeff: “This is Greendale, Annie. If there is a conspiracy, it goes to slightly above the middle.”

Annie: “Do you understand what a conspiracy is? When you conspire with everyone you come across, you're not really conspiring with anyone. You're just doing random crap.”

Four out of four modern retellings of MacBeth set in gangster-era Chicago that I would love to see.

  1. Ahhhhh

The one about the conspiracy. And the (first) blanket fort.

This ep blew my mind. And one of the many reason why this show in my heart has already become a cult TV show. Awesome (and the word is weak)

  2. I love the blanket fort so much. It's is so completely awesome. I actually mildly dislike the blanket/pillow fort 2-parter in season 3 because I feel like it retroactively spoils the simple brilliance of this one...

  3. I loved all the pajamas in this one, especially Troy's with the sports gear. Each set was indicative of the person wearing it.

I'm beginning to see your point about Jeff and Annie. When they are acting together, it's easy to forget that he is twice her age and all the icky stuff. They do have amazing chemistry.
