Doux News: July 27, 2014

This Week: The Dead Will Walk in October — More SHIELD — This Week in Nolan — Arrow Season Three Preview — Fat Neil and the Women — Outlander Trailer — Book News — GoT @ SDCC

This year's San Diego Comic-Con was stocked full of goodies, many of which a handful of specially-selected Agents of DOUX got to enjoy for themselves. But what about those of us who didn't get to enjoy being within 500 feet of our favorite stars and creators while crammed into a fetid conference room filled with sweaty, tired fans? Well, that's what Doux News is for.

The Dead Will Walk in October

The Walking Dead Comic-Con panel revealed a premiere date—October 12th—and a new trailer for the fifth season. Plus, if you're getting sick of zombies, you'll be happy to know that, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s new zombie series Outcast was greenlit for production by Cinemax.

Curious about other upcoming fall dates? Check back here at Doux Reviews later this week.

More SHIELD

The AoSHIELD (yeah, I can’t stop finding new ways to abbreviate that show) panel revealed some fan-o-licious news: Lucy Lawless will play Isabelle Hardey, and Reed Diamond will play Daniel Whitehall. The MAShers also revealed that they’re quite a silly bunch:

Earlier in the week—not even at Comic-Con!—Joss Whedon discussed roles for women in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron film, listing four women who play a major part: Black Widow and Maria Hill will both return, Scarlet Witch will feature, and somebody else. As of writing this, I can’t find footage of the Age of Ultron trailer that premiered at Saturday’s Comic-Con Panel, so feel free to add it in the comments if you track it down!

This Week in Nolan

Accompanied by newbie Matthew McConaughey, Christopher Nolan—who is really just Mark Greig in disguise—made his first Comic-Con appearance this week, where he unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming film Interstellar. Nolan asked that fans keep the trailer under wraps, and I’m going to respect that (you can do what you like, intrepid Googlers that you are!), but reports from Hall H indicate a wormhole and an ice planet both make their appearance. We’ll all know for sure when the movie comes out in November.

That’s not the only NolanNews this week: Entertainment Weekly reported that Anthony Hopkins will star in Jonathan Nolan’s upcoming TV series Westworld for HBO. Although HBO hasn’t greenlit the series yet, all indications point towards success. Even TV execs worry about being eaten.

Arrow Season Three Preview

Here’s the extended Season Three preview for Arrow, which recently announced that Devon Aoki will play the role of Katana. And the Arrow’s very own cousin, Robbie Amell, will play to role of Firestorm on Arrow spinoff The Flash.

Fat Neil and the Women

We've also got a bunch of casting news for the upcoming fall season. I have no idea why it’s all women. And Community’s Fat Neil:

Charley Koontz (Fat Neil) will join the new CSI spinoff CSI: Cyber.

Georgina Haig (Fringe) will play Elsa (from Frozen) on Once Upon a Time. Her character will have some sort of ties to whomever Elizabeth Mitchell is playing.

Courtney Love will have a recurring role in the seventh season of Sons of Anarchy.

Elizabeth Rohm (Angel, Law and Order) will join the CBS procedural Stalker.

Sarah Lancaster (Chuck) will have a recurring role at the end of this season of Witches of East End.

Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, 24) will have a season-long arc on Resurrection.

Outlander Trailer

Book News

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander isn’t the only book with small-screen potential. There are reports of an upcoming Lifetime adaptation of Jean M. Auel’s Clan of the Cave Bear series, a BBC America miniseries (Last Kingdom) based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novels, a greenlight for the SyFy adaptation of Lev Grossman’s Magicians trilogy, and a Bryan Fuller-helmed adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods for Starz. Plus, IDW will produce a comics series based on the Orphan Black universe.

GoT @ SDCC

Here’s a fan-made highlights reel from the Game of Thrones Comic-Con Panel:

And a lovely update from the Agents of DOUX who got to enjoy the panel:

Josie Kafka is a full-time cat servant and part-time rogue demon hunter. (What's a rogue demon?)

  1. Terrific Comic-conny Doux News this week, Josie! Ah, I remember cons. The wonder and glory of spending hours and hours waiting in line...

There are two bits of news I can add. Joss Whedon couldn't attend because he was in the hospital after knee surgery; he posted a couple of photos of himself on Twitter. And another giant of Comic-con, 83-year-old William Shatner, broke his leg after a fall from a horse but attended Comic-con anyway in a wheelchair. I'm sending them both healing vibes. Ohhmmmmm

  2. I am so excited to hear about a potential series based on Cornwell's Saxon Stories! I LOVED that series! (all of his, really)

I've been OD-ing on SDCC clips everywhere I can find them...would love to go...someday.

  3. and somebody else

It's this laser-like precision that the Agents of DOUX are famous for throughout the known universe!

  4. Gavrielle, that's the extent of the information I was able to find: the two women we've already seen, Scarlet Witch, and some as-yet-unidentified Strong Female Role.

  5. No problem, I enjoyed it very much just as it was - more detail would take all the fun away:).

  6. Okay, who revealed my secret identity? It was McConaughey, wasn't it?
