About Us: Juliette

Here's our last "About Us" entry – one of our veteran writers, Juliette! (And a big thank you to all of the writers who participated in this holiday series.)

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do in real life? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

I live in a village in the UK, and I work as a lecturer at a small university in Birmingham.

What show or shows are you covering for Doux Reviews? Why those particular shows?

My shows are supposed to be Star Trek: Voyager and The West Wing, but because I always have too much work to do and not enough time to do it in, I haven't been able to update either in absolutely ages! So I mostly help out with round robin reviews these days - I've contributed to Community, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Farscape, The X-Files, and I think I might have done an episode of Supernatural once!

Which TV character do you identify with the most, and why?

Probably Amy Farrah-Fowler from The Big Bang Theory, because I'm a lecturer and researcher at a university, and before I met my fiancee, who I met online, I basically never dated!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?

I'd have trouble choosing between flying and swimming like a mermaid. If I could fly, that's how I would commute to work, and I could skip the traffic!

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top few will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

Star Trek: Voyager, and probably also the BBC's 1970s dramatisation of I, Claudius, which I used to re-watch every year until I ran out of time to do anything! And I love sitcoms, so there's a huge list of those that I'll watch over and over again.

What is your favorite reality show, and why?

Masterchef. I like looking for inspiration for recipes! I've even tried one or two at home.

Marvel or DC?

MCU all the way. Though growing up, my favourite superhero was always Superman. If you going to be a superhero, you might as well go all out. (I hate Batman, who is a rich, criminal vigilante who likes to dress as a bat for no reason).

Cats or dogs? Or is there some other animal involved?

Cats, but my partner is allergic, so we have an adorable corgi puppy whom I love to bits. I love both, really. And I do miss my hamster.

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

When folding napkins over cutlery, I can pick almost the exact right number of napkins for the cutlery in front of me off the pile of napkins. It's not an especially useful skill. (I waitressed for a long time!).

What is your most wished for holiday gift?

World peace. But more practically, a two-week tropical honeymoon where I could take the dog. No wait, that's not possible either. Just give me wine!

  1. There's always something in these Q&As that seem so familiar. Growing up, my favorite superhero was Superman, too. I also waitressed for awhile. And I love the photo of your dog. That is absolutely adorable.

  2. I like to ask people what animal they would be. I have a friend that would want to be a duck so she can swim and fly. You don't have to choose - be a duck. :) But I guess ducks don't swim like mermaids sooooo ignore me.

  3. Always nice to see someone who prefers Superman to Batman. That's not the most popular of opinions, though it is the superior opinion from where I stand.

  4. She is definitely adorable :) I do have better pictures of her but I like her derpy expression in that one! I hadn't thought of being a duck - good point, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable being something so tasty! ;)

  5. I can confirm to that corgi being absolutely adorable!!!

And you should see Juliette convincing a guy at a Star Trek convention that she's (dressed in a tank top, trousers and a Starlet badge) Janeway on an away mission from I don't remember anymore which episode, so she could go in to contribute to a Guiness World Record for most number of people in a room dressed as Trek! ;)
