New Year Wishes from the Agents of Doux

Hi, all. Mikey here.

Gentle readers,

As we wind down one more trip around that great big fire-y ball we call the sun and prepare to begin the next, I think we can all agree that 2021 was... a year. That happened.

In the spirit of looking forward with hope and optimism, I've taken it upon myself to gather for you these, the hopes and wishes of my fellow Agents of Doux for '22. I begin, as always, with myself.

Mikey: For TV 2022, my wishes are that when they announce who the next Doctor is, it's somebody relatively unknown who seems super cool, and that Legends of Tomorrow gets renewed for an eighth season. Oh, and that lots more people find Doom Patrol and discover what an amazingly good show it is so that they'll keep making more of it. Plus abs, and a Jeep Wrangler. Those are not TV related, but I'm going to keep throwing them out there to the universe.

Sunbunny: I want Bridgerton season two to be better than season one. I’m not going to get into my problems with the freshman season here but I hope season two is less controversial and still brings me a slew of pop hits rearranged as classical pieces. Also, while we’re at it, I wish Eloise was a lesbian because this show is sorely lacking in gay rep.

I want Doctor Who to return to its former glory. No shade on anyone who’s been enjoying it, but the Chibnall years haven’t been my cup of tea so I hope RTD reinvigorates the show. Also I want the Doctor to stay female for at least one more regeneration and maybe get a visit from her wife River Song.

I want Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to be just as good as we’re all hoping and that Marvel’s Disney Plus series continue to be excellent. While we’re on the topic...

I want a Daredevil reboot on Disney Plus. It was the only Marvel/Netflix series that delivered good television consistently across all seasons; am I so wrong for wanting Charlie Cox to don the suit again?

I want a second season of Disney Plus’ Behind the Attraction with an episode about Pirates of the Caribbean. I love Disneyland, so of course I love this series, but what’s really cool (to me, at least) is the glimpses we get of what the rides look like in other parks. I’m a southern Californian girl, I’ve only ever been to the Disney Parks in Anaheim. I want to live vicariously through my tv screen and see what’s happening in Tokyo and Paris.

I want the third season of Derry Girls! And I want it now!

An Honest Fangirl: My biggest wish is for all of the hype and speculation around who could be in Spider Man No Way Home is right. (Being vague in case people are trying to avoid any and all theories.) But I suppose that’s still 2020.

Sunbunny, I would love a return of Daredevil on Disney Plus, although I would also want Jessica Jones to show up in it as well. And Luke Cage. And Frank Castle. Okay, just give me the Defenders again but minus Danny and plus the Punisher.

I want CSI: Las Vegas to be renewed and have a second season. I was a bit too young to catch the original when it started, but I watched Miami and New York for years and am really enjoying this reboot. Even with the occasional very ham-fisted monologues about how the truth doesn’t matter anymore as long as you can convince people you’re right. The characters are a delight and I want to spend more time in the world.

I also want the Dexter reboot to be good. I'm not watching it because I'm waiting for it to be bingeable within a free trial period, and I'm not necessarily invested in it at all, but I want it to be good and not feel pointless.

I also want a second female Doctor. Or if we do go back to a guy, a POC Doctor. But also I really want someone who can bring excitement to the fanbase and reinvigorate those (like me!) who have slipped away.

Billie Doux: Mine is mostly a I'm-tired-of-the-wait thing. I want Star Trek: Strange New Worlds right now, and I want it to be wonderful; we've been waiting since 2019, mostly because of the pandemic. And I want seasons six and seven of Outlander. Plus, and this is a big one that I think about a lot, that Diana Gabaldon finishes writing the final book in the Outlander series before the final season, because this is one particular television property that has remained very close to its source material. (I realize this goes beyond 2022, the set parameters of our wish list.)

I'm also really looking forward to what JMS does with the new Babylon 5. I was a huge fan of the show back in the day.

Joseph Santini: For 2022... my number one wish is to see more Deaf and disabled characters on screen, especially in the superhero- and sci-fi type shows that tend to grab my interest. There's rumors that the filming of Wicked will intentionally cast a disabled actor for the character of Nessarose, and that they drop the next season of Dragon Prince (with the Deaf character Amaya, sadly never listed among the cast since she has no spoken language actor representing her – kinda wish they'd based her signing on a live actor somehow so she wouldn't have been so erasable but oh well.) Seeing Lauren Ridloff in The Eternals kind of left me wanting more... could she appear in What If? season two?

I want season four of Stranger Things to come out and for David Harbour to get to do something interesting with the character of Jim Hopper.

I want my expectations met for all the Marvel films coming in 2022 out so much! If I had to pick the one I'm most curious about it's Moon Knight. This character is somewhat different in the comics than your regular superhero or god. It's actually kinda both, and knowing Marvel, they'll be fairly creative about how they show it. The one I'm most excited about is definitely Love and Thunder.

TV shows. A couple of predictions. I think She-Hulk is gonna be one of the hits of the year, and I'm looking forward to seeing Mark Ruffalo again, especially if he's in Hulk Daddy mode. I am extremely curious how they're going to develop the new Lord of the Rings series.

Books. I want the next Mistborn book to come out – the rumored title is 'The Lost Metal.'

Mostly for 2022 I want everyone to find the peace and wholeness they deserve.

(Note from Mikey: Please observe that Joseph has wished for the well being of others, whereas I wished for abs. This is all you need to know about the essential difference between us.)

Samantha Quinn: I hope the final few properties of 2021 live up to expectations (Expanse S6, Spider-Man No Way Home, Dexter: New Blood, Hawkeye... etc.).

I would like at least one the Marvel shows in 2022 to knock my socks off, because so far they're good but not great (although WandaVision and Loki have come close).

I want the new Babylon 5 to be as great as it could be, with wonderful actors capable of delivering the highs of the original. The same goes for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, please be better than good! Also Picard S2, please be as wonderful as you appear to be, I need my Q fix (it's only been 27 years).

Outlander and Umbrella, just keep things going with the standard you have established and we'll be on good terms next year. Also, if we get more Legends please utilize whoever is writing the currently season again because it has been so good.

On the movie front there are too many to list, but may the great fickle spirit of Hollywood grace the productions of all those potential gems and delight us with a year of exceptional entertainment!

(And last but not least...)

Mark Greig: What do I want for 2022? I want much more than this provincial life! I want adventure in the great wide somewhere. I want it more than I can tell! And for once it might be grand, to have someone understand, I want so much more than they've got planned...

Also a Daredevil revival would be nice.

I think we can all agree that Mark has clearly been the winner of this exercise.

And so with that, we at Doux Reviews wish you all the best in the upcoming year. May all of your entertainment related hopes and wishes come true. May we all find peace and wholeness, and let us all, every one of us, be gifted with those chiseled rock hard abs we so richly deserve.

Have a wonderful 2022, everyone.

-Mikey

  2. Note to Mikey: The wellbeing of others may indeed require abs. Let us discuss.

  4. I have three TV wishes for 2022. The first is that the second season of All Creatures Great and Small be as nearly perfect as the first. I’m not sure anything could be as good as season one, but even if it comes close, I’ll be a happy person.

My second wish is around The Great British Baking Show. It needs a reboot and if the producers at ITV want my ideas, I’d be more than happy to share it with them. This most recent season was a perfect example of a show being saved by its contestants, among the best of any season ever. But, all four of the hosts either need to move on, or they need to quite frankly get over themselves.

Finally, I’m with Billie. Bring on those final seasons of Outlander!

  5. JRS and Mikey, I don't have any abs of my own, but I want to do my part to contribute to the wellbeing of others.

May I borrow an ab or two distribute to my community?

    1. You don't have abs? You must have a very interesting profile, what with your boobs sitting on top of your hips.
