Mikey Heinrich: Has anybody else watched Staged with David Tennant and Michael Sheen? It really is very, very funny.
An Honest Fangirl: I feel like I saw clips back in 2020/2021, but I've never seen a full episode. I'm not surprised that it's funny, though.
Mikey Heinrich: You can tell that it's very much a fresh into covid era project when everybody was trying to figure out how to make entertainment using only zoom calls and home recordings. But I really could watch the two of them video chat for hours and never tire of it.
Between that, Prodigal Son, and The Good Fight, I've become quite the Michael Sheen fan boy. He's also in the audible version of Sandman as Lucifer, where he gives an amazingly dead on impression of David Bowie, as well as being in arguably the best episode of new Doctor Who.
Okay, I admit it. I'm clearly Michael Sheen stalking at this point.
Sunbunny: He had a hilarious running bit in 30 Rock.
Mikey Heinrich: I never saw any 30 Rock. Is it worth going back and checking out?
Sunbunny: If you're not easily offended I might give it a try. It could be pretty outrageous. I think they took the episode where Jenna does blackface off of streaming a few years ago. And I don't mean easily offended as a derogative AT ALL. I'm often easily offended. Just want to properly prepare you. It starts off a little less than great but once they get the patter between Lemon and Jack (Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin) down to a science, it's amazing. It's almost 20 years old but I still quote it (to myself) all the time. So many familiar faces turn up and also if you understand television production it's a lot funnier I think. It's honestly been a while since I watched it, so I can't say for sure it holds up but I imagine if you can overlook Alec Baldwin being there you might enjoy it.
Mikey Heinrich: It's not actually possible to offend me. Well... not via television in any case. I'll add it to my list.
An Honest Fangirl: Wait, Michael Sheen was on Doctor Who?
Mikey Heinrich: In a very, very obscure way, yes. He was the voice of House in "The Doctor's Wife."
An Honest Fangirl: Huh. I haven't seen that episode since it aired, but I don't remember recognizing his voice. Honestly, it would have been weirder if he had never been in it at this point, though.
Mikey Heinrich: So yes, add Michael Sheen to the 'everybody who's cool has worked with Karen Gillan' list. Including Kevin Bacon, let's not forget.
An Honest Fangirl: Well, everyone has worked with Kevin Bacon. At least within six degrees of him. ;)
Sunbunny: Was derogative the right word? Or did I mean pejorative? Or derogatory? I suppose we'll never know. Totally forgot Michael Sheen was in "The Doctor's Wife." Let me know what you think if you give 30 Rock a try.
Mikey Heinrich: Either works, in slightly different ways.
I just rewatched the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special in a futile attempt to not hate the holiday. The fact that Kevin Bacon read that script and said, sure, I'll do that, kind of confirms that he must be incredibly awesome in real life.
Sunbunny: Did anyone else watch Selfie? Short-lived Karen Gillan sitcom with John Cho based off My Fair Lady?
An Honest Fangirl: Oh my gosh, I haven't thought about that show in years. I never watched it, but I remember the commercials for it. I feel like it got canceled after like three weeks or something ridiculously short.
Sunbunny: It was so cute. I think it's still on Hulu.
Samantha M. Quinn: The Guardian's Christmas Special was way better than it had any right to be, and yes Kevin Bacon went above and beyond in that role.
So Disney just dropped this little nugget.
It has the first footage from Andor and Alien: Earth, as well as some new footage from Daredevil and Ironheart plus some other stuff that I'm totally not interested in watching. What is kind of scary is how much is under the House of Mouse now. I had totally forgotten Fox was now a Disney property.
An Honest Fangirl: So, so excited about Alien: Earth but then I remember it’s going to be on Hulu, which is legitimately the only service I don’t pay for. But there’s been a lot of interesting stuff coming out of Disney the last few days.
This is also how I learn that there is going to be a Chad Powers show. For anyone who is not as football obsessed as me, it’s a skit that former Giants quarterback Eli Manning has a few years ago. I’ll include the link to it, but it made me cry laughing the first time I saw it.
I have no idea if the show will be even remotely good at all whatsoever. Probably not. But I love Chad Powers as a fictional human being.
Michael Sheen is terrific and I really did enjoy Prodigal Son. It would have been nice if it had lasted a bit longer. And I'm happy that Andor is coming back. Of all of the Star Wars series, I think I enjoyed Andor the most.
ReplyDeleteAndor is worth watching and worth having been made just for that one speech by Stellan Skårsgard; the first series is brilliant. I can only hope the new one matches it, but I refuse to get my hopes up, given how things usually go.
DeleteAnd Staged is just amazing. Tennant and Sheen are yet more gifts from Britain to civilisation.
The final episode of Staged might be the funniest thing I've ever seen.
