This Week: It has Abed from Community

I decided to watch Suits LA when it premiered on Sunday. I liked Stephen Amell a lot on Arrow, I liked the original show, the original creator is doing it, it seemed like a good time.

A few negatives: No “Greenback Boogie” (or any intro credits at all) despite using the song incessantly in all of the promos. It feels like we were dropped into the show three episodes late. There’s no entry point for us to understand these characters or the dynamics. And I don’t want to discuss spoilers too heavily in this but the twist??? At the very end???? What????? Why?????

I also went to see The Monkey in theaters. Undecided as to whether or not I’ll review it. It wasn’t the movie that I hoped for, and I’m worried my review will turn very snarky.

What is everyone else watching?

Morella: It's been nothing for a while here. I'm painting my Enlightened fleet for Dystopian Wars as we have an event in May and I'm a slow painter. We've also been busy with Enshrouded multiplayer, so not a lot of time for watching anything lately!

Billie Doux: I just saw a time travel movie on Hulu called Things Will Be Different. It had a really interesting premise – a brother and sister hide out after a bank robbery in a farmhouse that is hidden in another time period – but it lost me about halfway through. I checked to see how it turned out, and my final verdict is, don't bother.

Mikey Heinrich: I finally finished all of Dexter and Original Sin kind of made me fall in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar all over again.

Victoria Grossack: I'm working through the second season of Resident Alien, in order to review it, and my current comfort TV includes reruns of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I like it because the law is the law, but people are so accepting each other. No one on the squad cares about the race or orientation of each other (although of course it matters in their past and in the rest of the world).

Mark Grieg: I haven't been watching anything lately, probably saving all my energy for Daredevil, Wheel of Time, Doctor Who and Andor all being back very soon. I have started reading M.R. James' collected ghost stories and hoping to also track down all the adaptations the BBC did for their A Ghost Story for Christmas series. Did watch Stargate the other day and made me want to review it, mostly to talk about how my SG-1 infused brain just cannot accept it as Stargate now.

An Honest Fangirl: In potentially exciting news, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins are both confirmed to be in the next season of The Boys. Jensen Ackles is, of course, returning as well.

I don’t watch it, but always happy for a Supernatural reunion!

Josie Kafka: I've hit a goldmine of TV lately!

Hulu has a new show from Steven Knight (who created Peaky Blinders): 1000 Blows, starring Stephen Graham as a boxer in late-Victorian London. There's also a girl-gang of thieves, a season-long heist plan, and a bunch of other fun stuff.

Since I had to resubscribe to Hulu, I've also been catching up on Abbott Elementary. So cute, although the crossover with It's Always Sunny really bothered me. I just do not understand why people like that show. Those characters are unbearable.

I'm also watching Mythic Quest. Does anyone here watch Mythic Quest? It has Abed from Community!

Mark Grieg: I don't watch Mythic Quest, but know someone who does watch Mythic Quest and often goes on about how everyone should watch Mythic Quest, partly because it has Abed from Community.

An Honest Fangirl: That'll be it from us! What are you all watching?

  1. Second for watching Mythic Quest, not just because it has Abed from Community.
Mythic Quest is a workplace comedy, mostly. The character flaws and traits are exaggerated, but the setting is a computer game development studio so it doesn't seem that ridiculous. The actors all seem to be enjoying themselves, and the humour isn't particularly gross or cruel.
Try to watch as far as episode 5, "A Dark Quiet Death", before passing judgement. (Only 25 or so minutes per episode, so that's the equivalent of a movie.)

  2. I just binged all of the Pitt yesterday and I think I'm now mildly obsessed. So, so, so good.

  3. I'm also just about at the end of my list of tv shows I've always meant to watch and am going back and forth between Numb3rs and The Wire. The last Numb3rs episode I watched had a pre-good wife Carrie Preston, which was surreal

    1. Mikey, does that comment imply that you've never seen True Blood?

    2. I did as it aired. Wait... was Carrie Preston on true blood...??

Oh my God, she was! I totally just clicked who she played. I had never put that together.

Also, any show that regularly featured Ryan Kwanten fully naked... just assume I've seen it :)
