Renewals and Cancellations: 2014-2015

The inevitable is beginning to happen and shows are being cancelled by the network PTB. Here at Doux Reviews we have decided to change things up a bit this year. Rather than one big post at the end of the television season, we will keep a running tally for you. Check back to see how the shows you love are doing.

For now, we are only listing the Big 5 networks as trying to list all the cable channels would be, well, daunting. As time goes on, however, we may expand the list to include those shows we all love that reside somewhere other than the networks. In the meantime, green means the show has been renewed; red means it has been cancelled; pink means the show will air or is airing its final season. Let us know in the comments whether or not you agree with the decisions being made.

  1. Although it's not on the list (yet), I'd like to talk about Continuum. It breaks my heart to say this, but I think the show is dead, and Showcase hasn't said anything yet probably because they think the buzz around the series’ fate will dissipate given enough time.

It’s interesting because a couple of months ago I thought the exact opposite. I thought they were holding news expecting that campaigns for the series’ renewal would attract curious sci-fi fans that are unaware Continuum exists (I bet there a lot).

I hope I’m wrong and that they are still trying to find a way to make a fourth season. But at this point, I’m not positive anymore. :(

  2. As we review the show and as many people are anxious about the renewal, I have added Continuum to the list. Thanks for commenting.

  3. Thanks, Chris.

Lamounier, I agree that the prognosis for Continuum is not good; I don't think we're getting another full season, or we would have heard by now. But I'm hoping that they might take pity on us fans and give us a TV movie or something to wrap things up. That's happened with other shows that were cancelled too soon. Fingers crossed.

  4. You may want to consider adding a note for those shows that are airing their final season, as opposed to just using the red "cancelled." It might freak people out (or just confuse them) to see that things like The Mentalist, Parks and Recreation, and Glee are marked as cancelled, when they still have final seasons to air.

You could maybe add Justified under Selected Cable Shows with a similar note, since we cover it and it is about to air its final season. (Or maybe that just opens the door to too many "where is [insert given cable show] on the list?" questions. :) )

  5. Jess -- that is a great idea. I have made the changes.

If there is a particular show that is not on one of the Big 5 that you would like us to track, please comment below. I don't promise to include it, but we will do our very best.

    Thanks for all the comments.

  6. I'm really bummed about selfie. It might kot have been great but it was incredibly charming, and Karen and john had great chemistry

  7. I'm sad about Selfie too. And they probably won't air all the eps which is just mean.
Sleepy Hollow will get renewed surely?
I hope. I kinda want John and Karen on it.
Maybe they can't handle one more gorgeous redhead though?

  8. Just saw that Flash, Arrow, and Supernatural have all been renewed for another season. I can't believe Supernatural will have an 11th season!

  9. I'm selfishly happy Supernatural got another season, since I'm enjoying actually watching it along with everyone else, and so far I like season 10 better than 7, 8 or 9 so I'm optimistic!

It will be the longest consecutively running US SFF show apparently - and considering the longest running British one changed lead actor every few years, it must be one of the longest-running SFF (or indeed any) shows with the same two leads overall. I do hope they start to embrace small changes (like actually seeing all the regular cast members all the time) a bit more, but in any case, I'm enjoying the show, so yay.

I love that sea of green under The CW now!

  11. 10th May - Last Man Standing is the only ABC show not coloured red or green. So, it's the last man standing. This amused me far more than it should have.

  12. Also I just noticed The Mindy Project was cancelled. Aw :( Mind you, I hadn't been keeping up with it in a while. Enjoyed Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt despite it being weird and even uncomfortable at times, so yay for Netflix!

  13. Juliette -- your comment about the ABC shows made me laugh out loud. I had exactly the same reaction when I was updating the post last week.
