This Close is the first time we've seen television about Deaf people written by a team of Deaf writers. Josh Feldman and Sho Stern are well-known amongst members of the Deaf community. Equally groundbreaking, however, is that both writers are also actors. This series evolved from some short film experiments between the two and first aired on Sundance Now on February 14th, 2018 – an almost-ironic start date, given how deeply the series explores love. Termed a 'dramedy,' the series was renewed for a second season on April 2018, and was nominated for a Peabody Award in April 2019.
