Supernatural: Hunted

Sam: "Did he know the demon's plans for me? Am I supposed to go dark side or something?"

More about Sam as future evil demon warrior guy. Which seems to be what Ava has become. Which was too bad, because Ava was the most enjoyable female character they've introduced yet. She was funny and genuine and sweet, going way out of her way to save the life of a total stranger. Maybe she didn't go bad. Maybe someone or something else killed her fiance. Nah.

Sam did a smart thing; he asked Ash to find 23-year-olds who had nursery fires. But all he found were Sam, Max, Andy and Scott. We never found out why Ava's mother was alive. Scott told his shrink that a yellow-eyed man came to him in his dreams and told him to do terrible things. That's obviously not happening to Sam yet. Was Scott further along the evil path than Sam? Was Scott ready to erupt into a flurry of homicides, perhaps? Or would he have managed to fight it off?

Which is the big question. Was Scott destined to become evil, no matter what? Ditto Ava and Sam? Gordon brought up the famous Hitler question: if you could go back in time before he did bad stuff and kill Hitler, would you do it? That's assuming Hitler would always do what he did under any and all circumstances. Sam is just too good a guy to go dark side. I think. Well, he does steal cars.

Gordon found Sam by using his roadhouse connections that weren't Ellen, and would have taken Sam out if it hadn't been for Ava. The way Sam beat Gordon and set him up with the cops was masterful, as well as pretty funny. Although I bet Gordon was so pissed off that he'll make it his mission in life to get out of prison and get the Winchesters, probably in some future episode.

Bits and pieces:

— Cool opener with Scott and his cautious shrink, set to "White Rabbit."

— Gold acting stars for both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki in the scene by the water where Dean told Sam the truth. They're both amazingly good actors, considering how young and cute they are.

— Sam stole a car. Why did that shock me? Bad Sam. No biscuit.

— Ellen revealed that Jo has left home and taken up hunting full-time. Was Jo just written out?

— This week we went to Lafayette, Indiana and Peoria, Illinois.

— Loved the Blue Rose Motel. They managed to find shiny silver and blue wallpaper with blue roses on it. Does anyone even manufacture something that hideous, or did they have to make it up?

— Funky town. Of course Dean would have code words. Very Dean.

Quotes:

Dean: "He said that I had to save you, and that nothing else mattered. And that if I couldn't, I'd..."
Sam: "You'd what, Dean?"
Dean: "I have to kill you. He said that I might have to kill you, Sammy."

Ellen: "Now Dean, they say you can't protect your loved ones forever. Well, I say screw that. What else is family for?"

Ava: "I just remembered when I was a kid. I swallowed, like, eight things of Pop Rocks and I drank a whole can of Coke. You don't think that that counts as a suicide attempt, do you?"

Dean: "He's got more of a conscience than I do. I mean, the guy feels guilty surfing the internet for porn."

Dean: "Dude, you ever take off like that again..."
Sam: "What? You'll kill me?"
Dean: "That's so not funny."

Dean: "Bitch."
Sam: "Jerk."

Another good episode in a string of good episodes. Three out of four stars,

Billie Doux adores Supernatural which is a good thing since apparently, it's eternal.

  1. I really like this one and poor Dean! He has a lot on his shoulders.

  2. Gordon is played by Sterling K. Brown from The People vs. OJ Simpson. Weird.

  3. No no no, Josie, you have it backwards. Darden was played by Gordon the vampire hunter. That makes a lot more sense.

  4. All you people chatting in the sidebar about "Gordon" and "Dr Lee" had me confused. :-x

  5. Gordon is a psychotic ass! He takes entirely too much pleasure in the killing. The way he went after Sam had my blood boiling. What I wouldn't give for one good throat punch!
