About Us: Panda

The Doux Reviews writing team generates dozens of reviews and articles each month, covering numerous shows and related TV facts and fun. We span five countries, three continents, and two species. We have plans to take over the world (any day now). But before we become masters and mistresses of the universe, we thought it would be fun to get to know the writers both new and old in a fun and irreverent interview series. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you our first 2012 About Us Interview: Panda!

Panda reviews Once Upon a Time and just started reviewing Roswell. He also reviewed The Secret Circle.

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

I live in straw hut with all the other leprechauns, and I sell shamrocks to tourists. Seriously though, I’m from Ireland. There’re no leprechauns here, but I have seen a shamrock or two, even though I don’t sell them.

If we just handed you a million dollars (you never know), what would you spend it on?

I’d find a way to get this site properly going so we could all do this full time (I know, I know, that’s way too generous right?).

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

I’m pathetically skill-less. Seriously, nothing to see here. Move along.

Are you a dog person or a cat person, or is there another animal involved?

Oh, I’m a cat person, for sure. I like dogs, but cats are better suited to my personality.

What show would recommend everyone finally get around to watching this summer?

If you had asked me a month ago, I would have said The Secret Circle, but the TV Gods haven’t exactly been merciful this year, so…maybe, Veronica Mars? If you’ve already gotten around to it though, give Pretty Little Liars a go instead.

Of all the shows we don't cover, list your: (1) guilty pleasure, (2) favorite reality show, and (3) favorite from childhood.

Guilty Pleasure: Pretty Little Liars, even if it isn’t so much a guilty pleasure, as it is a straight-up pleasure. It’s ridiculous, campy, fun and surprisingly dark.

Reality Show: That’s got to be America’s Next Top Model. But not the mutilated, Tyra ego-fest it is now.
Childhood: I think Sabrina the Teenage Witch defines my childhood. And it’s probably what got me into the whole sci-fi/witchy thing to begin with by transitioning me from kids TV into more grown up, witch/slayer filled territory.

Fill in the blanks: If ___ weren't already reviewing ___, I'd want to do it.

This might be a common one, but If Josie weren’t already reviewing The Vampire Diaries, I’d want to do it.

Which character do you identify with the most?

There’s actually lot of characters who I identify with, which is probably why I love TV and movies so much. I tend to get quite invested in the characters, so much so that I feel way too much for them when something goes wrong. But If I had to pick one, it would weirdly enough be Caroline Forbes from The Vampire Diaries. I’m going to go kind of deep here, but she had that whole painful coming out experience with her mother, and always remained honest and faithful to herself through it all. She’s someone to look up to, and it’s an experience I can relate too quite closely.

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top five will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

This is the hardest one! Well, Veronica Mars, Buffy, Alias and Charmed were always the four that I rattled off for years, but The Vampire Diaries has snuck in there recently.

You are hosting a dinner party for 8 TV characters and/or actors. Who would you invite?

Well, Damon Salvatore would be the first invitee because he’d bring the booze. Plus I could just stare at him if the conversation lagged.

Veronica Mars would keep the banter going, but Faye Chamberlain would be a good match.

Caroline Forbes would have to come too because, hello, she’s adorable.

Speaking of adorable, Willow Rosenberg is a must and she could conjure up any food if supplies run short.

Amanda Tanen and Marc St. James (Ugly Betty) would be there purely for entertainment.

And last, but not least, Dexter Morgan, to direct our vague and slightly off-putting hobby questions at. Wouldn’t it be fun to see what he comes up with? Unless we scare him too much, and he kills us all…

Next Week: Jess Lynde!

  1. What fun to read, Panda. Loved it. And you stole my answer to the million dollar question, which is no surprise. :)

  2. Thanks, Billie =)

I'm sure it'll be a lot of the writers' responses to that question!

  3. I'm glad that we had to submit our answers before Josie started posting the responses. It's going to be fun playing the "I wish I had said that!" game. Plus, I'm really looking forward to getting to know our newbies a bit better. I really enjoyed reading your responses, Panda!

(Of course, now I'm gonna look really bad next week, since I apparently didn't answer "the million dollar question" properly. Erg. At least my answer just makes me look boring and not like a totally selfish lout!)

  4. As I was reading this, I was thinking *exactly* what Jess was thinking. "I wish I had thought of that!"

Great answers, Panda. I loved reading it.

And, I am ashamed to admit that my million dollar answer does me look like a selfish lout. I guess one of us had to show his/her dark side. :-)

  5. I love the idea of Dexter Morgan and Damon Salvatore at a dinner party together. Would it be disaster? Would it be perfect? It's shipper fan fic waiting to happen.

  6. Really love this! Great answers, Panda, and agreed about the Sabrina love. I mentioned that myself.

And I had no idea the million dollar question had to be all selfless. Because mine is more of the "me, me, me" variety...

  7. Josie, I demand you get to work on that fanfic right away, it could be just the right motivation for the writers to get going on some sort of cross-over.

And thanks for all the great comments on this, I'm really looking forward to all of yours!

  10. FUN! I look forward to getting to know all you crazy guys a bit more! ;o)

And I think Veronica Mars could banter Faye into a corner, but Faye would come back all magicky for some revenge... definitely a confrontation I'd love to see, good choice Panda! :o)

(these new captchas are driving me crazy! anyone else?)

We love comments! We moderate because of spam and trolls, but don't let that stop you! It’s never too late to comment on an old show, but please don’t spoil future episodes for newbies.
