About Us: Billie Doux

Ladies and gentlemen, cats and kitties, it is with great fanfare that I present to you the last of our About Us Inteview series with the one, the only, Queen Billie Doux.

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

Los Angeles, although I'm originally from the other coast. Although I have a rather cool job, I work in a cubicle. I used to be okay with it, but I'm starting to hate my cubicle.

If we just handed you a million dollars (you never know), what would you spend it on?

I'd free myself and the ones I love from eternal cubicle servitude and spend serious time writing a lot more reviews and expanding the site. If anyone would like to donate that million (or even less than that) so that I could stay home and write, I'll review any show you like. Seriously!

I'd also donate money to animal charities, something I do now on a small scale. A million probably isn't enough, but if I had serious money, I'd start a large no kill shelter for homeless cats, with a large staff, an in-house vet, and so on.

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

I play guitar and piano, and I paint landscapes and still lifes in acrylics. I also enjoy cross referencing.

Are you a dog person or a cat person, or is there another animal involved?

See my response to question two. The animal on the top right of the front page of the site might be a clue, too.

What show would recommend everyone finally get around to watching this summer?

Funny you should ask. The Prisoner, since this June was Prisoner Month! Ben and I posted our combined reviews of the entire classic series, all seventeen episodes.

Postscript—if you've never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural, seriously, give them a try.

Of all the shows we don't cover, list your: (1) guilty pleasure, (2) favorite reality show, and (3) favorite from childhood.

(1) The Big Bang Theory
(2) Chopped
(3) I'm going to pass on this one, because you would all laugh at me.

Fill in the blanks: If ___ weren't already reviewing ___, I'd want to do it.

Josie, The Vampire Diaries.

Which character do you identify with the most?

Willow Rosenberg. Because of my geekiness, being an A student, and copying my class notes with a system of different colored pens. And her years of suffering unrequited love. I'm not gay yet. Maybe that's next. (This is a repeat of my answer from two years ago, because it hasn't changed.)

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top five will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

But I have also been deeply, totally obsessed with:

Star Trek: The Next Generation
Lost
Babylon 5
Supernatural

You are hosting a dinner party for 8 TV characters and/or actors. Who would you invite?

This is tough, because some of the ones I'd invite are vampires and that means I'd have to provide blood. Plus I'd be inviting at least one vampire hunter, which could be awkward. I'd probably have to divide the table into a non-vampire side and a vampire side.

Methos (Highlander) because I'd love to hear what a sarcastic five thousand year old man has to say; Dean Winchester (Supernatural), Walter Bishop (Fringe), Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood), Veronica Mars (duh, Veronica Mars). And on the vampire side, Spike (Buffy), Eric Northman (True Blood), and Damon Salvatore (Vampire Diaries).

Hey, I'd invite Michael (La Femme Nikita) and Jack (Alias) but neither of them would talk at the dinner party, so what would be the point?

  1. Billie, I think it's very interesting that your dinner party invite list, like mine, is so manly.

Why do you think that is? Are female characters on the shows we watch less interesting than the male characters?

  2. There are some similarities with my list in that regard. In my case, the manliness is all about sheer hormonal obsession. Eric, Spike and Damon at one table might just give me stroke...

I really am going to have to start watching Supernatural!

  3. It might be just hormonal, as Juliette said. I didn't realize that my dinner party was nearly all male until after I sent it to you, Josie.

And by the way, the photograph is a close-up of my extremely bratty 13-year-old cat, Spike. Three guesses whom I named him after.

  4. I love the fact that you write, paint and are musical. I want to be you in my next life!

Loved your dinner party list, manly or not.

    :-)

  5. Awwwwwwwww

    A) Spike is ADORABLE. My heart is melting like butter in the pan.

    b) Wow, you are so cool; being a bigger fan now. Yup. (you're still number 1 Josie BTW)

b2) so pissed that you censored your answer about your childhood TV show. Ah come on ! (curiosity killed the cat ?)

    c) I'll will get into Buffy....as soon as I find all the season sets on a very affordable price range. But let me digest my Lost experience first.

    d) ST TNG gave us great and extraordinary moments.

    d) I'd contribute to your charity, but I'm already saving for Josie's new laptop. And I still have to find a foster home for that baby bear (running gag(s) people ! do NOT get alarmed!)

  7. Musician. Writer. Painter. Are there no limits to your talents, Billie?

  8. Actually no, celticmarc.

I'm one of those really weird people that LOVES both math and reading and am, oddly enough, good enough at both.

Having said that, there are a few things I couldn't do if my life depended on it. Drawing a straight line is one of them. When my family sits down to play Pictionary (and this now includes my four year old nephew), I'm always the last one chosen... :-)

  9. Lovely picture of Spike. And I want to come to your dinner party. I could beef up the female quotient :).

  10. Spike seems to be a cool cat.
    Very enigmatic. :)
