Nikita: Alexandra

"Judging by the heavy eye makeup and tacky jewelry, I’d say she's still plying her trade.”

What a showstopping performance by Lyndsy Fonseca. She's certainly proved herself as one of the most talented young stars around today and she was particularly mesmerizing in this one.

The Alex role is an especially complex one. Troubled and damaged, yet powerful and determined, there are just so many layers and dimensions to the character than Lyndsy taps into quite capably. Here, she more than cemented herself as a marvelous actress by epitomizing everything that makes the character so fascinating, all from inside a small dog-cage. It's truly an achievement.

However, that's not to say that the episode is perfect. While Vlad is certainly an adequate enough villain, his constantly gloating over a fallen Alex got a bit tiring and repetitive. Moreover, the character of Irina was much too annoying and cliche for my taste. I get everything that they were going for, I just think it could have been done in a more exciting manner.

I did, however, enjoy seeing Nikita and Michael working together, although he's still not as compelling as I'd like to him to be. And that ending was pretty darn epic (Nikita really knows how to do endings) with Amanda ready to help a high Alex with her withdrawal symptoms, but only if she answers her questions. It's just so deliciously haunting and exciting with Alex shivering in fear. Loved it.

Bits & Bullets:

- Lyndsy Fonseca looks beyond gorgeous in that purple dress.

- Alex in a cage is not a pretty sight.

- Vlad telling the story of Anastasia intercut with Alexandra's flashbacks was a nice touch.

- Insanely creative fight scene with Michael and Nikki in the sauna room with one of her hands on the explosive trigger. I swear, this show's awesomeness kills me sometimes.

- I enjoyed the eye-opening chat between Michael and Nikita over the Kassim issue.

- Loved Alex announcing herself all badass and shooting Vlad dead.

Nikki Notables:

Bouncer: Let me guess. Model? Actress?
Nikita: Assassin.

Amanda: Michael, please. With all the recruits who are drug addicts, I'm practically running a rehab clinic.

A solid hour of Nikita that succeeded in making a standout character even more compelling.

3.5 out of 5 purple dresses.

  1. Nadim, your weak spot for Alex/Lyndsey is pretty cute :)
I´m not a big fan of her but I don´t know if it´s the acting or the character. I always have the impression of her trying to hard and sometimes I simply can´t buy it.

This episode had some annoying moments, but the Amanda moment was gold.

  2. I don´t see Lindsey Fonseca as so great either. She tries too hard like you said and it´s obvious to me she´s acting. Maggie is so tough and obviously like that in real life and you believe it more.

I love your reviews Nadim, but not in toal agreement with the Lindsey ´´weak spot LOL :)

  4. I am with you Nadim - I think Lindsey has been fantastic. I was actually not impressed with either Maggie Q or Shane West for about the first 4 episodes (actually, with Shane it took longer), but now I feel they have loosened up and know their characters better. The acting isn't as wooden. Perhaps it is because they have finally given Micheal more to do than just scowl. Maggie, on the other hand, has sold her bad-assery since day one.

  5. One word: awesome. Lyndsy did an amazing job here because like you said, Alex is a very complex and compelling character. Loved her coldness while killing Vlad and Michael/Nikita working together.
Also, that ending was creepy with Amanda demanding answers from Alex.

  6. Amanda is the true villain of this piece. She is beyond evil.

I'm with you, Nadim. I think Lyndsy Fonseca is a talented young woman who seems to go from strength to strength over the course of this season. I love her badass side!
