This week: DVR madness -- Fringe -- The Vampire Diaries -- This week in casts -- No, Ron, nooooo! -- Actual space news

Next week, everyone's DVR goes nuts. Everybody ready? Castle, Hawaii Five-O, Person of Interest, Last Resort, The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Dexter, 666 Park Avenue, The Mentalist, Homeland, and last but not least, the final season of Fringe:

We have to wait a bit longer, but with the obvious exceptions of the two returning shows I review (Supernatural and Dexter, which ended with a monster cliffhanger), I'm probably most looking forward to the return of The Vampire Diaries on October 11:

This week in casts

I'm also looking forward to the second episode of Revolution tomorrow night. I do really love this new "watch our pilot early!" trend, but as a result, it feels like we've been waiting forever for the second episode, doesn't it? And I'm happy to report that there are going to be three Supernatural guest stars on Revolution: Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer), Todd Stashwick (Dracula from the wonderful Octoberfest episode) Colin Ford (young Sam Winchester). Can't ask for more than that.

Well, I could ask for more Elizabeth Mitchell. I hear we're getting more, but I really wish she were the star. This week, we got an interview with Mitchell about her role on Revolution and, quite interestingly, about how she felt about the Lost finale. (In brief, she loved it because "we need a little magic in our lives, so that's how I felt about it. I know that it drove people nuts." She's also a fan of Breaking Bad. Me, too.

Blastr also posted a good-sized piece about Kripke's vision for Revolution.

In other cool news, science fiction icon Amanda Tapping landed a recurring role as a new and interesting angel on Supernatural. That makes me happy. And James Brolin has been cast as Jeff Winger's dad on Community.

No, Ron! Noooooooo!

Things haven't been going all that well for Ron Moore since he blew us away with the successful reboot of Battlestar Galactica. After a couple of failures, he has now decided... are you ready? ... to reboot... I can't stand this... A Knight's Tale. I really, really, REALLY didn't like A Knight's Tale.

Is this Game of Throne's fault?

Actual space news

Space news has been pretty cool this summer, what with Curiosity landing on Mars, space shuttle Endeavor trucking through the streets of my current home town in a couple of weeks before it ends up at the California Science Center (and I'm definitely going to go see it there, because what's the point of living in L.A. if you don't take advantage of opportunities like this?). And now we hear that there might actually be a possibility of warp drive in our future. Andromeda, here we come.

That's it for this week. Opinions, raves, rants, questions? Post a comment!

  1. What a great link to that Elizabeth Mitchell interview, Billie! She's so awesome. And so correct that she should do something again with Michael Emerson.

I saw the Endeavor! I was driving and everyone just stopped at the corner of Fountain and La Brea--middle of the intersection, wherever. We all looked up, and there it was! I didn't expect it to be so exciting, but it was fairly neat.

The Kripke interview about Revolution was a great find, too. I have more faith in the show now that he's described it as a quest. That answers my question of where they're going to go from the pilot.

    I loved A Knight's Tale.

  2. a) Miss Mitchell rocks, but we already knew that.

    b) Lucky you Josie; pics on the Net aren't the real thing. Gonna miss those spectacular takeoffs and landings (and I still VIVIDLY remember January '86 as if it were yesterday...)

    c) A Knight's Tale as a TV series ? Hum, not convinced. We remember what happened to his Bionic Woman reboot. Great, but wasted potential. Bad timing ?

    D) I'd like to see Jupiter with my own eyes; that'd be neat. Andromeda can wait; we have 100 000 light years in our own backyard. Cool cool cool.

  3. I LOVE A Knight's Tale! Also, a new version that doesn't make me feel slightly sad instead of deliriously happy like I used to might be nice.

  4. I loved A Knight's Tale as well. But then, I'll watch absolutely anything in which James Purefoy shows up -- sigh.

If Moore is taking suggestions, I always thought that William should have ended up with Kate. She's much more interesting (not to mention a better actress) than Jocelyn.

I'm excited for all the new shows this week. Watching the Emmys last night, it was interesting to see which ABC shows were showcased during the ad breaks and which were not. Dancing with the Stars and 666 Park Avenue are certainly the ones the network is pushing the hardest. In four hours, Castle was only mentioned once.

  5. I too loved A Knight's Tale. Chaucer's introductions of William were hilarious.

    ChrisB,

Hmmm...William with Kate, that would be interesting. I really didn't like that part where William had to keep losing to prove himself to Jocelyn.

As for Castle, if the internet sites I've been to are any indication, fans are very well aware of the return of Castle. There is such a frenzy building towards tonight's episode. :D

  6. Oddly enough, I'm glad that everyone appears to love A Knight's Tale. If it's just me that hates it, the show has a much better chance of success. :)

  7. Matthew -- not only did I think that the losing thing was crazy, but I always thought that William should have recognized how similar his story was to Kate's. Both of them fought against the odds and won. All Jocelyn had to was sit there and look pretty. Boring!

I haven't been on the Castle sites for a couple of weeks as I hate spoilers and there was a lot of speculation going on. The one and only trailer I saw last night gave nothing away -- so I am looking forward to tonight!

  8. ChrisB,

I think there's a total of 6 sneak peeks floating around now. Half of them are revolve around the serious portion of the episode, the others revolve around the fun portion of the episode. My favorite one, damnit, can't say anything without spoilers. :D

Let me just say, from the spoilers I've seen, tonight's episode is going to be epic. :)

In fact the spoilers I've seen for the upcoming season bodes well for how great Season 5 is probably going to be. Yeah! :D

Question: Are you going to post titles of upcoming episodes of Castle or is that consider possible spoiler information?

I ask because the first 7 episode titles are now known.

  9. Matthew -- I'll just add them as I post the reviews.

Wish you hadn't told me about the sneak peeks. Now, I have to exert all kinds of willpower for the next four hours and forty minutes to stay off the sites! :-)

    Heh, heh, heh, heh....:D

  11. Count me among those who loved "A Knight's Tale". My daughter and I have watched it so many times we can recite the dialogue. And it still cracks me up. I start laughing before they even utter the lines. As a series though? I am not so sure.
Netflix just (finally) has added Season 7 of Supernatural, so if I watch it all really fast, I may be ready for Season 8!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess what I am doing tomorrow...
Netflix also just (finally) added Season 2 of Sherlock...so I am in pig heaven. Now all I need is Season 2 of Nikita.
I wasn't blown away by Revolution (I watched the pilot at the regular airing), but I will stick with it for a while.
    FRINGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sunday night is already all blocked off for OUAT.
And, drnanamom, just here bugging you about your Haven review...can't wait to read what you thought about the opener...after that unbelievable cliffhanger last season!

  12. Hey Sooze
Unfortunately, we Canadians don't get the premiere of Haven until this Friday. I'll do my best to get the review up quickly!
