Newsflash: Veronica Mars Movie Is a Go!

Veronica Mars fans, brace yourselves. Prepare for your minds to be blown. Hold on to your chair, or anything nearby that might support the spaz attack you're about to have. It’s happening.

Thanks to Kickstarter, Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars herself) have been granted permission by the WB to produce the project we have long since thought was dead. If they reach their goal of $2,000,000 before the month is out (that’s 30 days from now) then production will start as soon as summer time. That’s right guys, we’ll finally be getting Veronica Mars the movie.

All of us here at Doux Reviews are crazy excited for this. It's been my favorite TV show for as long as I've known about it. If Rob and his team get full creative control, it should be just as good as it could be. In his official statement Rob gave a tiny insight into what the movie might entail: “Life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling.”

Exciting, right? We'll finally be getting the resolution we've been waiting 6 years for. And it looks like he’s planning on getting all the fan favorites back on board; even more exciting!

Tasers at the ready guys, the b*tch is back...hopefully.

Donate at Kickstarter if you can spare a few, we're almost a quarter of the way there!

UPDATE

We've just crossed the $1,000,000 mark. Half way there and it's only day 1!

UPDATE NUMBER TWO

It happened! They made over 2 million, and the movie is a go!

  1. 508,000... a quarter of the way there before noon on the first real day the Kickstarter was posted.

This is really happening, isn't it.

  2. "· Kickstarter campaign and rewards fulfillment limited to U.S."

Oh well.. You guys go finance the movie for the rest of us then and I'll just watch it when done.

  3. Wow! I looked at that page after seeing the news, and it was at $40K. Now it's at $950K. Good progress in a quarter of the first day.

  4. $1 million reached at just after 3:00 Eastern. Astonishing!

  5. Yeah, the fact that it's restricted to the US does whiff somewhat. Me and a couple of friends Paypalled some dosh to a friend living in Washington to pledge on our behalf. He's probably spent it on drink already, the worthless fecker!

    ReplyDelete
  6. You can only pledge if you're in the US? That seems stupid. Why limit it like that?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I haven't donated yet, but I will be! If you use myUS can you get access to the prizes that way?

    ReplyDelete
  8. 1.2 Million. As far as I can tell, the donations are universally accepted, but nothing from outside the US is eligible for the prize packages.

  9. At the moment, only the $10 PDF shooting script level seems to be available internationally.

However, I'm sure they'll offer an all digital tier soon, and when they do, I'll just increase my pledge.

    It's amazing, they're already up to $1,230,000

  10. Let us all pray this doesn't inspire someone to try and get a Heroes movie made.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Quick, everyone donate. Rob Thomas just tweeted.... "Stretch goal. $3 Million or Logan Echolls doesn't survive the movie". What a bastard!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nearly 3/4 of the way there. 1.44Mil

  13. We're nearly there, and it's only been a matter of hours. Imagine the number of April 12!

  15. 1,900,000! We're almost there chaps and chapettes!

  16. BTW, watch the video on the site, if you haven't already! It's wonderful. And it includes Enrico and Jason and the character that always annoyed the heck out of me and it's been so long since I reviewed the series that I don't remember his name...

    ReplyDelete
  17. How can you forget the name Dick? He totally was his name.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's just my advanced age, Paul. What can I say.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If it's any consolation, I couldn't remember it earlier either and had to look it up ;o)

  20. We crossed the 2 Million mark everyone we are getting a Veronica Mars movie!

  21. WOO HOO!

This is the first time something like this has happened. I bet it won't be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lots of VM fans out there, and dissatisfied with how the series ended. The series *needs* a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm so glad it was this particular project which succeeded. This sort of thing happens so rarely.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is incredible !

I'll check the DVD sales : I should add this series to my collection, right ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Only if you want to sit at the cool table with the cool kids, Marc. Wait, is saying 'cool' cool anymore? I may have inadvertently just been uncool. Damn! Not cool!

    ReplyDelete
  26. a) if that means sitting with you guys, well yes, go for it !

    b) Abed is still saying cool cool cool, so it's cool with me.

  27. Yes, I'd love more Firefly. But Firefly *got* a movie, Nathan Fillion has a hit series, and Joss Whedon is committed to Avengers 2 for the next few years. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  28. All good points Billie - it would be interesting to see what happened if kickstarter had been around when firefly was cancelled - Maybe I can kickstart a time-machine to find out...

    ReplyDelete
  29. $2,490,321 now. Likely going to cross $3 million by the end of the day. So lots of spare cash for the car chases and nudity.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Paul Kelly: I did like his very quick next Tweet.
Okay. Logan lives. Bad idea. I was accosted by 'Shippers on my way to Starbucks. Instead, Backup won't survive unless we get $3M.

Also, there was a project update e-mail this morning:
A couple important announcements. First, please know we are trying to make international donations a possibility. We are running into a couple thorny issues, but we want it to happen. It might take a week or two before we have an answer, but keep checking back. Know that we hear you, and we're trying our best.

We can't believe we've topped out on so many of our bigger reward packages. We're working on coming up with some new high end rewards. This might also take a few days, but more will appear.

Lastly, thousands of questions have come in through the Kickstarter site. We're making our way through them. They will all get answered, but it may take a few days. A lot of them are real stumpers.

    pledged of $2,000,000 goal

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh wow, I am now officially a backer of a Hollywood movie.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's now up to $3,300,000. And nearly a month to go. I think I'm going to contribute so that I can get a digital download or a DVD, just in case the movie isn't playing close by.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I guess that means Logan Echolls survives the movie. :)

  35. Whenever I'm down I just stop being down and I check this page instead:
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project

    Almost 3.5 mil everyone.

  36. Joss Whedon responded to everyone bringing up Firefly as a possible project. It's pretty much what I thought -- Whedon is committed for the next three years, Nathan Fillion is the star of a hit show, etc. Plus he also mentions (and I hadn't thought of it) that science fiction is more expensive to film than a current day detective show.

  37. Oh yeah i totally forgot he was such a huge fan of VM that he had a cameo in it and i think directed an eppy..

    ReplyDelete
  38. Now that we've hit 3.5 million, it means that the production budget is 100% covered. I hope that the number will surge again when the restriction on the prizes are restricted.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Final total: $5,702,153. Almost triple what they aimed for.

    ReplyDelete
  40. For all of you VM fans ! Enjoy this :
