Independent Spirit and Razzie Awards 2014

In anticipation of the Oscars being handed out tonight, two other groups presented awards last night. One honored the best of the past year; one honored the worst.

The Independent Spirit Awards are “awards dedicated to independent filmmakers.” Celebrating the best of the past year, none of these awards was a huge surprise:

John Cassavetes Award “is presented to the creative team of a film budgeted at less than $500,000:” This is Martin Bonner
Robert Altman Award is given to one film’s director, casting director, and its ensemble cast: Mud

Much more fun are the Razzies, the Golden Raspberry Awards, awarded to the worst of the past year. Big wins for the Smith family and Tyler Perry.

What do you think, especially about the Razzies? Did they get them right or were there even worse showings last year? Let us know.

  1. Surprised the Fruitvale Station didn't win something. Actually, was it even nominated? (for an Independent Spirit Award, obviously, not a Razzie)
