Hello, readers of Doux News. As you read this, I may have already been to your house leaving baskets of chocolate and other goodies for you to consume over the course of the day. Enjoy the sugar rush.

I feel I am often overshadowed by my fat cousin in the red suit who shows up at the end of the year. He has nothing on me. He gets to sit in a sleigh and pop up and down chimneys while the elves do all the manufacturing and Rudolph and the gang pull him around. I, on the other hand, have to make all the goodies myself and I have to hop around the world in one night. No wonder all I eat is carrots and lettuce.

Like my fabled cousin, I keep a list of who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. This year, I was astonished to find that two women who had been on my nice list, Josie and Chris, were exchanging emails about this week’s News that caused my nose to twitch and my whiskers to quiver. I hastily stepped in, told them to behave, and assured them that I, as a loyal reader of this site, would cover the news for them.

Jack is Back!

So, it appears, are Chloe, Audrey and now President (!!) Heller. Some great new faces will be around, including Yvonne Strahovski who has already proven that she can kick some ass.

What? You didn’t think the Easter Bunny watched television? The great thing about my job is that it is seasonal. Once I deliver that last basket, I have an enormous amount of downtime. I spend it sprawled out in my hutch, remote in hand.

The 24 reboot generated a fair amount of discussion in the Agents of DOUX virtual writers room. Some loved it from beginning to end; some watched a few seasons before giving up on it; some have never seen a single episode.

The Agents would love to hear from you about your experiences with the show. Did you watch it? Are you planning to watch the reboot? What do think about the idea of a twelve hour instead of twenty-four hour day?

There was also a great deal of discussion around the pacing of the show. To fill twenty-four hours of television, there were always a fair number of side plots and extraneous events going on. Did these add or detract from the show for you?

Finally, how did you watch it? Were you a loyal live viewer or a binge watcher? I believe it is a show best suited to marathon binge, but others disagree.

I loved every one of the eight seasons of 24 and am giddy at the thought of another day, even if it is only half a day. The series kicks off May 5 on Fox and Team 24 be covering it here. If you want to give the show a chance, or re-visit old friends, prior to that date, Amazon Prime is streaming it for free.

Piper and Crew are Back!

Everyone always tells me that black jelly beans are the worst. That's all right, because Orange is the New Black and season two kicks off June 6. If you haven't seen this series yet, you have plenty of time to catch up and you should. Billie will be covering the series and I, for one, am hopping with excitement.

Books into Films:

Lost’s Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta have created an HBO series based on Perrota’s book, The Leftovers. Scheduled to premiere on June 15, this looks like it might be an interesting story to watch. Except, the video tells us nothing about the number of rabbits that will disappear on that day. I will have to watch to see how they address this very important issue.

It isn't often that books keep me up all night, but Gone Girl did. While I am not entirely convinced that the story will translate well to the screen, the movie is generating quite a bit of buzz. My hope is that all the fervor will lead people to the book.

Marco Polo

As I have been around for ever, Marco Polo and I were friends back in the day. Marco led a very interesting life that Netflix is turning into a series. I do hope the writers will remember the year he helped me deliver baskets to my friend Prester John.

The Goldfinch

In her post of the Best of 2013, Josie talked about this book. I can attest that it is one of the best books I have read in a while and it looks as though Josie and I are in good company. It won the Fiction Pulitzer this week. If you are looking for a good read, this is one I highly recommend, not just because the title character looks something like a Peep.

What? You didn’t think the Easter Bunny reads books? See above about all the downtime.

This Week in Casts:

Gwendoline Christie will replace Lily Rabe as Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two.

Linda Hamilton will guest star in the second season of Syfy’s Defiance.

Stephen Colbert, now the official heir to the David Letterman kingdom, will be a guest on The Late Show April 22.

Glee will go into its sixth and final season with a new location and much smaller cast.

Superheroes:

Although, really, who do these people think they are? They may save the world and all, but what’s more important? Saving the world or chocolate. I think we all know the answer to that one.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is pulling out all the stops for its season finale.

Drew Goddard, who has more than his fair share of sic-fi street cred, is rumored to be kickstarting another superhero franchise.

This Week in Pets:

I do like Josie and Chris; I am less fond of the animals with whom they share their lives. Sam T. Cat just stares at me like I am a silly creature, not worthy of his notice. Buddy chases me around the back yard and won't allow me to nibble on all the goodies in the garden. As this is my column, I will not post anything that would lead you to believe that I like either cats or dogs.

Final Easter Tweet Instagram Photo:

As my final Easter treat tweet, whatever... This is the first Instagram selfie from space. Check out the t-shirt that has a photo of a rather familiar space craft surrounded by the words "Shipping & Logistics: Everything's Shiny."

Josie Kafka and ChrisB would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Bunny for agreeing to write this week’s column and for saving them from themselves.

  1. Bah! You floppy-eared, twitchy-nosed fool. I mock your adorability.

  2. First cats, and now bunnies. Doux Reviews will stop at nothing to bring you all the news fit to print written by four-legged creatures. This summer, keep watch for guest posts by ferrets.

I'm so looking forward to OitNB and 24, of course. I'm sort of looking forward to the final season of True Blood this summer, too.

I didn't get into Gone Girl. The first couple of chapters lost me. I assume it got better?

  3. I'm so puzzled by Mr. Bunny's unwillingness to post anything about puppies. I always try to play with the bunnies who come into the garden, but they scurry away. I give chase, but they always win.

All I can tell you about Gone Girl is that my friend, ChrisB, read it while I was staying with her. I found it very annoying because she kept reading the book and not playing with me. She must have loved it, because normally I can irritate her enough to give up what she's doing and at least rub my ears. No go during this book.

I want to wish all of my friends, especially Mr. Bunny and Mr. Sam, a very happy Easter.

    -- Buddy
