Fall 2015 Premiere Dates

Shakespeare had it right: fall is the time in which we love yet know we must lose. This year's Fall Premiere schedule contains quite a few expected goodies--I'm lookin' at you, The Good Wife--and more than a few empty places, as old favorites like Person of Interest are held until the midseason.

Or, as Shakespeare puts it:

Sonnet to TV

That time of year thou mayst TV behold
When good shows, or none, or few, do air
Upon those screens which illuminate the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the devil dared.
On screen the Heroes Reborn again hold sway,
While Sleepy Hollows fadeth in the west.
And by and by networks do take away;
Death’s second self: canceling all the best.
SHIELD thou mayest continue to admire,
That on the ashes of good films doth lie,
'Twill never be as good, thy knowest, as its sire,
Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must stream ere long.

  1. A Shakespearean sonnet about television. Josie, you're awesome.

I'm looking forward to the rebirth of Sleepy Hollow, unless they don't pull it off. What I assume will be final seasons of Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, although at this point, predicting the end of Supernatural is probably a stupid thing for me to do. Love The Good Wife so much, but I'm so unhappy that they lost Matthew Goode! It's less Good now.

And other stuff. I think I might be looking forward more to the winter premieres this year. Huh.

  2. I'm sticking with my favourite shows Gotham, Supernatural, Arrow. AoS etc.

I was looking forward to Supergirl but then I saw the pilot. It's a weird mixture of Polyanna meets Ugly Betty meets Superman The Movie (1978). Easily the worst pilot I've seen since Viva Laughlin 2007. Pity.

  3. I'm still sulking that Matthew Goode won't be on Good Wife. At least he'll be on Downton.

  4. TJ, I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but Supergirl was hardly the worst pilot in years. I'd go so far to say it was pretty good, it had some cliches and some pilotitis, but there was a lot of potential there.

It would be nice to finally say goodbye to the Winchesters on their terms, but I think that ship sailed six years ago at the end of season five. While I still love the show, I have no idea how they are going to end on a great note. Probably a good note, potentially even a depressing/not so good note. We'll see.

Lots of new stuff coming down the line. Lots of returning stuff to look forward too as well. Looks like a good fall season.

  5. I'm catching up with the Good Wife..I hear Archie Panjabi's gone too..
I'm on season 4. Oh well. That's at least two more seasons with her.
Sleepy Hollow will be strange this fall..no Orlando Jones.

  6. Oh I totally forgot about The Good Wife. Of course I'm looking forward to that, but I'll miss Kalinda. I just love that show. How is that possible? I usually can't stand lawyers-court-politics-blabla-kinda shows, but TGW is excellent.

And I am of course looking forward to the wonderful iZombie, which was a surprise for me this year...I am usually not very fond of zombie themed shows.

And I will check out the new Minority Report, Heroes Reborn, The Expanse.

JD, I think CBS "leaked" the first episode of Supergirl to get some feedback. And it is quite obvious that the result was a bit black/white. People hated it, or, thought it was ok. The problem is, I think, is that they are marketing the show as a "romantic comedy", which is fine if you like that kind of show. I love some romance and comedy in my shows - but more as an app. I'm hoping that the producers are taking in all the negative reviews, and are working Superhours to get the concept right. We'll see...

  7. Actually, this is the first I've heard that the Supergirl pilot was bad. Everywhere else is saying that it was unexpectedly good. Hmmm...

  8. Can't wait for Jason Dohring to be back on my screen!! And in The Originals, no less. Someone pinch me.

While I feel like it could be time for Supernatural to take a bow, thinking about how it'll all end gives me anxiety. I am desperate for a happy ending (that sticks) for those boys, but it could not feel further out of reach for them. Sigh... it's only TV, it's only TV, it's only TV.

Someone tell me, should I start watching Gotham??

    Lovely sonnet.

  9. I'm not the one to ask about Gotham. It turns me off, for some reason. But a lot of people love it.

  10. Laure, I recommend Gotham. Iit was one of my favorite shows last year. My 19 yo son didn't like like it because it wasn't "canon" to him. Some parts I did not like (Jada Pinkett Smith played a new character that annoyed me). I loved the character development of Jim Gordon, A preteen Bruce Wayne's and Selina Kyle ( both so believable as young actors and the adults they would become), Alfred, and Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin and his creepy mom ( Robin Lord Taylor is awesome). Edward Nygma/Riddler and Harvey Bullock, Leslie Thompson were good too. Not as fond of other minor characters or Barbara Keane, but that may change. The story develops with time. I am a Batman frantic, so it is easy for me to love this show. my son loves Batman, but wants it to stay true to the comics, I think.

My husband and I watch Gothan, Blecklist, Agents of Sheild, Sleepy Hollow in the fall and I watch The Walking Dead. Game of Thrones and Orphan Black are our spring shows.
