About Us: Sunbunny

Next up is one of our veteran writers, sunbunny!

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do in real life? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

I live in Los Angeles and right now I'm applying to grad school to become a high school English teacher.

What show or shows are you covering for Doux Reviews? Why those particular shows?

I'm not covering anything regularly right now but in the past I've covered Person of Interest, Scandal, and Orphan Black. I also have some reviews planned for the new year so stay tuned. Person of Interest was the first show I reviewed for the site. To be honest, I started reviewing it because it was on the site's list of shows they needed reviewers for and I wanted to write for the site, but wow was that a great decision. That show really grew from good to great to excellent. If you're looking for something to watch over Christmas, I can't recommend it highly enough. It just gets better and better. And it's on Netflix!

Which TV character do you identify with the most, and why?

Buffy Summers. She faced a lot and fell down but she always got back up and ended up conquering her literal and figurative demons.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?

I'd choose communication with animals. I just want to know what's going on in my puppy's head honestly. Because she does some mystifying things. She just got spayed so she's in a cone right now and I'd love to know how she keeps getting it off because it seems like every time I look away it's no longer around her neck... Also I'd convince the neighbor's dog not to run into the street anymore because one of these days she's going to give me a heart attack.

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top few will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I mean without question. The show means so much to me, it's gotten me through so much. Other favorite shows include Angel (of course), Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, and Brooklyn Nine Nine. Of currently running shows, it's probably The Good Place.

What is your favorite reality show, and why?

I don't watch reality TV actually. I used to watch Project Runway in college. It was fun to see what the designers came up with.

Marvel or DC?

The eternal question! DC's characters are more dear to my heart if I'm being honest, but if we're talking about current incarnations, Marvel hands down. The DCEU is a MESS. Wonder Woman was an amazing movie but Justice League? Suicide Squad? Not so much. (Although I do love Suicide Squad because it gave me live action Harley Quinn.) To be honest, I'm suffering from superhero fatigue. Marvel's universe is just so all encompassing. I don't have the time or inclination to keep up with its dozen or so TV shows. And they just canceled Daredevil! THE BEST ONE!

Cats or dogs? Or is there some other animal involved?

Dogs. I had a cat growing up, Missy, but I'm very much a dog person. I have the aforementioned 7 month old black schnoodle, Ava, and my mom has a mostly-chihuahua rescue named Rosie. I lost my dog Beau to cancer last year and it was really difficult to get through.

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

I'm excellent at putting together Ikea furniture. I'm good at jigsaw puzzles too. I guess that relates.

What is your most wished for holiday gift?

Mark has made me want Batman the Animated Series on BluRay. I grew up loving that show and still enjoy watching it online but there's something special about OWNING a show. Plus, I could get rid of DC Universe. Although then I couldn't watch Batman Beyond anymore...maybe I need Batman Beyond too. I had such a crush on Terry growing up.

  1. Yes! Person of Interest is easily in my top ten favorite shows ever. Maybe even the top five. And quite possibly the top two. It's definitely up there, in any event.

  2. CoramDeo - I JUST did a rewatch. Like I finished yesterday (and cried buckets). I always hesitate recommending it to people because it changed so radically over time. And like there are people (like my mom) who like the early seasons when it was more or less a procedural and then there are people who STRUGGLE to get through that stuff to get to the more scifi stuff. And the lady loving lady action (which, sadly, never lived up to its potential).

  3. Oh, I love Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries! That's one of my sad, rainy day series that I always return to when I need something to make me feel good inside. Did you know that they're making a movie? Apparently, it finished filming at the end of November, which I am very excited about!

  4. I loved Person of Interest too. A show that consistently treated mathematics with respect and joy.
