NewsFlash: Supernatural will actually end

It was announced today that Supernatural will finally, finally come to an end next season, its fifteenth. Pinch me.

It had to end sometime, I suppose, but what a shock. I thought it was going to be this season with the 300th episode, but then they surprised us and announced that there would be a fifteenth season.

Jensen Ackles:

Misha Collins:

As Jared said, Excuse me while I go cry. Well, I won't cry, but there's no denying that it's the end of an era.

  1. Well, I'm going to go cry. Which kind of surprises me. I haven't consistently watched Supernatural in four or five years, but hearing the news still feels like a punch in the gut. It's how I found this site, it's how I found fan fiction and creative writing in general... a lot of my current path in life can be attributed to this show. I guess I just kinda thought that it would always go on forever.

But the fact that they are announcing it this early gives me hope. It'll be hard to give this show the ending it deserves, but I'm glad that they'll go into planning and everything knowing that they end to wrap everything up. Now please give my boys a happy ending. They deserve it.

  2. I feel.. lucky that I had the opportunity to watch it this year. Sad because I love those character and I'll always love them. Excited because I hope it will be a rising opportunity for J2M to go on with their career and I can't wait. It's been a very good ride and will be for ankther year along with you, Billie!

  3. It has been an amazing series, and it looks like they'll have the chance to go out with a bang and not with a whimper. And I have absolutely no idea if it'll be a happy bang or a sad bang.

  4. It's a tragic story. I think it's going to have a sad ending. Even though I don't want it to be.

  5. EW just put together tweets about The End from several prominent guest stars, including Jim Beaver, Sam Smith and Sterling K. Brown.

  6. So today I learned that Sterling K. Brown was on Supernatural. That's new (to me). I flirted with the idea of a rewatch when they hit 300 but now that season 15 is going to be the end I think I will rewatch the whole series so I can watch S15 as it unfolds. Haven't been watching the past several years, but I don't know. The show meant a lot to me at one point and it just feels...fair.

  7. Sterling K. Brown was Gordon, the psycho hunter, in four episodes starting with "Bloodlust" in season two. He was so good that that was when he got on my radar.

  8. I'm doing a rewatch this summer, too. I was thinking about it but hesitating because we didn't know when the show would end.

  9. I’m devastated. Doesn’t help I am also losing Criminal Minds as well.

  10. Maybe they'll do a Thelma and Louise and drive off a cliff in Baby.

  11. In my opinion, I think the only way the show can end is with Sam and Dean about to go hunt something; checking out weapons in the trunk and then slamming Baby's trunk (as we've seen them do so many times) and that slam of course is what fades to black.

I'm not sure I want a tied up ending (happy) or obviously not a tragic one. But I agree with you Billie, it can't have a traditionally happy ending. However, the boys continuing hunting isn't necessarily a bad or tragic one. There have been so many references to them feeling like this is where they belong. Do we really see Sam and Dean "retiring" to a different, albeit happy, life? But I can see them getting on with business. And if Supernatural has to end, I want to imagine them out there, on the road, in bad motels, driving Baby with Cas in the back, hunting things.

  12. Like Episode 100, they will ride off into the proverbial and literal sunset.

The over conceptualized tie-up loose ends series ender is a trap (look at Lost). It's a game a series like Supernatural, with its immense lore and history shouldn't have to play. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing is getting Crowley back for the last episode in some way. Maybe he pops into the car (after some shenanigans) before my suggested fade to black.

  13. Sorry, me again. Can't help myself. The last episode has them attempting to bring back some entity or another. They're not sure if it worked or not. They shrug and decide to go on a hunt. They are preparing. Cas and Jack are in the back seat. Crowley appears, looks in the back, sees Jack and says something like, "You're still here? Didn't see that one coming." Sam and Dean are momentarily nonplussed but then shrug and say, "Get in." Then they check their weapons, there's the shot of them from the inside of the trunk, they slam the trunk shut. Fade to black. That, to me, would be perfect.

  14. I woke up this morning and my first thought was, Supernatural is ending! Wow. And then I thought what a good thing it was that we have an entire year to get used to the idea. Imagine how we'd feel if they had told us it was ending *this* season?

  15. I found this from the current showrunners

Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb also opened up about the shocking news in a joint statement. "Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us, it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros. Television and The CW has been incredible. We'd like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared, and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send-off they deserve," their statement reads.

So hopefully that is them saying the show will get a proper ending.

I was thinking the show can only end in afew ways either they just carry on hunting (which is my preferred ending) as throughout the whole show the boys have said that they will hunt till they die.

Unless they come up with a way to get rid of all evil so there is nothing left to hunt. Then carrying on to the next hunt is the best way as it shows the constant battle between good and evil ( part of reason I was fine with angels ending). The brothers both die permeantly *shudders*

Or they retire and leave the hunting to some other group but this again would go against a lot of what has been established throughout the show.
I feel going to the next hunt would be a nice ending, plus it leaves it open for a potential mini series later on.

  16. A lot of people will have a few how the ending should be so they won't be able to please everyone

  17. The saddest thing is that everyone's so unanimous in saying goodbye. We are mourning over SPN like it's already dead. But why? You take it from me, when one is going to leave a job one would like to be asked to stay. Not because that would change things but it's lovely to feel that you are needed. I think we owe this to the boys.

  18. Yeah I am definitely going to be crying! This show filled the Whedon sized hole in my heart. It is going to be dearly missed!
