Five Famous Movie Mentors (And how they died)

Like teenage girls home alone, cops just days away from retirement or anyone played by Sean Bean, wise old mentors to young movie heroes are just doomed to die. Here are five of the most well known and how they all met their ends.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)

Who did they mentor: Anakin Skywalker and (somewhat more successfully) Luke Skywalker.

How did they die: Let Anakin, now Darth Vader, kill him so Luke could have another dead parental figure to be sad about or something. Claimed they'd come back more powerful, but then did bugger all for the rest of the trilogy.

Gandalf the Grey (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring)

Who did they mentor: Bilbo, Frodo and most of Middle Earth.

How did they die: Died fighting a Balrog (a demon of the ancient world) in Moria. He got better, though.

Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez (Highlander)

Who did they mentor: French accented Scotsman Connor MacLeod.

How did they die: The Scottish accented Spaniard Egyptian was decapitated by the Kurgan. He returned for the sequel where it was revealed the immortals were really all aliens for another planet, but we don't really talk about that.

Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince)

Who did they mentor: Harry Potter and all the other kids at Hogwarts, except the Slytherins, who he repeatedly fucked over. It’s really no surprise they all became Death Eaters.

How did they die: Killed by Snape, but he was already dying so it was okay I guess.

Mickey Goldmill (Rocky III)

Who did they mentor: That bum Rocky Balboa.

How did they die: Showing greater resilience than everyone else on this list, Micky made it all the way to the third movie before popping his clogs, dying of a heart attack after Rocky loses his fight to Mr. T's Clubber Lang.
