"No one can be told what the Matrix is, you have to see it for yourself."
In two days we will be getting the first trailer for the latest installment of The Matrix saga. However, in the meantime there is an incredibly clever marketing strategy that I have to share.
I was just the right age to be the perfect fangirl for The Matrix. I was even going through my Goth period, and spent a good chunk of my life trying (and failing) to look like I belonged in that world. I even liked The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (although to a lesser degree). So, when it was announced a couple of years ago that a fourth Matrix film was being released, I was tentatively excited.
Lana Wachowski is returning to write and direct, that’s great news. Keanu Reeves is coming back as Neo, okay, that’s cool. Carrie-Anne Moss will also return as Trinity. Um, yay... but now I have questions.
Today Warner Bros has relaunched the What is the Matrix website that was around initially for marketing the first trilogy. Currently there are two pills, two choices for teaser. Each gives you a unique teaser (from nearly 180,000 variations) from a blue pill perspective or a red pill perspective (which is why you should watch them on the website and not from a Youtube clip). And boy, does this film look interesting.
I forget sometimes how much I love Will Smith. Here is his take on why he passed up the first Matrix movie.
I genuinely hope this will be a good film, and I guess we don't have long until we find out. The Matrix Resurrections premieres simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on 12/22/2021, and I'll be reviewing it.
Thursday, September 9, 2021 - The first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections drops and I actually cry while watching it. I'm such a sap.
Okay, that Will Smith video is terrific. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved The Matrix. I love hard science fiction and it was just a spectacular movie. The two sequels dimmed my love for it, so I'm not sure how I feel about 4. But I'll watch it, and hope for spectacular.
You are so right, the teaser trailer generator is super fun.
ReplyDeleteHowever the final films turns out, the marketing so far has been exceptional.
ReplyDeleteWatching the full trailer (the one available on HBOMax) convinced me to finally finish watching the original trilogy. The last film wasn't very good, but this upcoming one does look awesome.
ReplyDeleteDo you all think I should watch Animatrix, too? I don't love animated things.
The Animatrix is a bit uneven but has some interesting stories and world building. The only one that is kind of required watching, although mainly to help set up Reloaded, is the Last Flight of the Osiris.
ReplyDeleteYeah please give The Animatrix a shot... it is uneven like Samantha said but I still found it more worthwhile to revisit than the latter two of the Matrix trilogy. Some sequences are really hard to watch, in the good way
