Battlestar Galactica: The Hand of God

Adama: "All due respect, gentlemen, we're not as crazy as she is."

So. Did the Cylons just purposely give the fleet a new fuel supply? It sure looked that way to me. And with Gaius guessing something absolutely crucial correctly for what, the third time, I must conclude he's either more brilliant than anyone ever guessed, or the Cylons have a direct channel into his brain that he knows nothing about. Other than the constant tactile hallucination of Six, that is.

Speaking of hallucinations, Roslin started seeing snakes because of the chamalla extract... or is something religious really going on? Is it more than Cylon delusion? Or is it more logical that she absorbed the Pythia prophecy in an earlier reading (or heard about it somewhere) and forgot that she consciously knew about it?

One of the things I found delightful about this one was the way Adama let Starbuck design the tylium-stealing operation. She's valuable in her own specific way both in and out of the cockpit, and he knew just how to use her talents.

Meanwhile back on Caprica, Six and her metal friends have caught up with our lovers, who probably haven't been practicing safe sex since Sharon is acting a little bit pregnant. (Isn't it early for morning sickness, though?) It's funny, but I forgot that Helo still doesn't know about the Cylon humanoid clones, even though he's sleeping with one of them.

Bits and pieces:

— Gaius was having kittens while the rebels were attacking the Death Star. He was truly worried that his "wild guess" was going to be the death of everyone. Which, of course, included him, so maybe that wasn't an indicator of loyalty to humanity after all.

— It was mentioned that the exile and rebirth of the human race occurred 3,600 years ago. Leaving aside the question of what a year consists of in the BSG universe, are we talking about 1600 B.C.E., or did the event occur in our future? And if "all of this has happened before, all of this will happen again," does it matter?

— Starbuck was still using a cane, and still having trouble with her knee. It sure can't be for lack of trying. I like that it didn't magically get better by the next episode, just like a real life injury.

— Jamie Bamber has some serious biceps on him. Yum.

— Adama again mentioned his father, the civil rights lawyer, when he gave Lee the lucky lighter.

Quotes:

Starbuck: "Out of the box is where I live."

Lee: "Look, you're worried that I'm not going to pull it out of the fire with some high-risk, retina-detaching move the way Starbuck would."

Very good. Three out of four stars,

  1. Starbuck - ace pilot, flight instructor, sniper, interrogator and master tactician. :) Lots of skill for one character. ;)

Apollo's run was so very Star Wars but with a zero-g twist so that doesn't bother me one bit. I just like space battles where the tactic isn't just shoot shoot shoot.

It seems the Cylons gave them fuel to fulfull the prophecy of a grand battle in Kobol according to vision!Six or to guide the fleet towards Kobol and then Earth according to spaced!Leoben. All in all i bet it will be a fun ride in the last 3 episodes of season 1.

  2. Wasn't such a fan of this one, not bad, not great. Nice to see Starbuck take a backseat, and Lee get to be the boss for once! It was also nice to see them score a win... I half expected the deck to explode as everyone was celebrating at the end there!

  3. The main thing I liked about this was they were low on fuel. I've been waiting for this to come up ever since they used up about half of their fuel supply trying to get Starbuck back. Good consistency.

  4. Odd observation but I thought there was something inexplicably cute about the way they detail the plan with a 2-d map and models. Like when they're explaining what's currently happening and you see off-screen hands moving the sticks attached to those toy raiders/vipers slowly to try to match the real-time distance covering. I don't know lol. It's cute... I hope they have more of that.
