Smallville: Accelerate

Clark: "I'm trying to help Lana."
Chloe: "Of course you are. What are you saving her from today?"

A bit different, yes. But when you come right down to it, this was yet another episode about a meteor freak obsessed with Lana Lang. Which gave Clark another chance to be all manly and protective. And Clark was finally rewarded; Lana appears to want a relationship now.

The little homicidal K-clone Emily kept popping up all over the place, and it was done so well that it was actually pretty creepy. I rarely feel for Lana, but I did here. Kristin Kreuk looked convincingly terrified and upset. Lana has lost her parents and her boyfriend, and now we learn she lost her best friend when she was little. It's amazing she's walking around at all.

Lex's wedding is only three weeks away, so it must be scheduled for the season finale. What I liked most about this episode was Lionel making all those father-son reconciliation noises, and Lex having none of it. Does Lionel really want to make up with Lex? Could it possibly be? Lionel is certainly still up to something, since the Miracle Grow clones were his fault. Lionel also just took control of the caves, too.

We can make an obvious comparison here between Emily and Lex. Both owned and manipulated by Lionel. What will Lionel do with Emily? Will we ever know?

Bits and quotes:

— The Talon had a "late night double feature picture show."

— Martha's pregnancy is showing. They bought a crib.

— Lana observed that Clark idolizes her, and doesn't see her as she really is. She's absolutely right.

— I loved the stopped raindrops effect.

Lex: "You offered the woman I love a hundred thousand dollars to leave me."
Lionel: "I did you a favor, Lex. That was the ultimate test of loyalty, and she passed with flying colors. You should be thanking me."
Talk about spin. I love Lionel.

Three stars,

Billie

Billie Doux had a love-hate relationship with Smallville, which is why some of her reviews are briefer than they should be.

  1. Pete Dinsmore was played by Neil FREAKING Flynn, The Janitor from Scrubs who now stars on The Middle. Dude's awesome and hilarious. Verrrrry fun actor.

Emily Dinsmore was played by Jodelle Ferland who, among her many, many credits for such a young career, is most notable, by me, for playing Melanie Merchant in Supernatural's Season 1 episode, "Provenance." Yeah, that's right. She was the creepy little girl running around slicing people's throats open with a razor blade thingy. Creepy, CREEPY little girl.

  2. Poor Lana. She has not had an easy sixteen years.

Although she is not my favourite character, she does have some good moments. One of them is in this episode when she tells Clark that he doesn't see her for what she is. As you point out, Billie, she is absolutely right. It will be interesting to see what happens if and when the blinders finally do come off.

Great point about the Emily/Lex comparison. I hadn't thought of that, but you are absolutely right. I wonder if Emily will continue to age quickly -- she might make an interesting addition to the Luthor clan.

  3. Lana... Lana's having a hard life. Lol it was almost reaching authentic levels of upsetting seeing Lana's face break after Emily asks her on the bridge "Did you save me?" It's so messed up
