I love episodes like this, even though they never really explained how it happened. Why did the call go to the teen crisis hotline? Because Lana is a teen and it was a crisis? So that it would be recorded and Clark would figure it out? At least this wasn't the typical "Lana in danger" plot. I even liked the gutsy way Lana dealt with the homicidal Adam.
This was a fine way to end the Adam arc and shift the emphasis back to Lionel, which will undoubtedly be a lot more fun. Lionel appears to be dying of a rare liver disease (and from a plot standpoint, may I say, "A ha!) and of course, he's after Clark. Lionel is very rich, wildly determined, and has nothing to lose. He's too evil to live. But oh, how I love him.
And I love the complexities of the Lionel/Lex relationship. There's a deep lack of trust, so much so that Lionel hasn't told Lex about his illness. And that may have been a serious error in judgment, since Lex is now ready to sell Lionel out and put him away. Would Lex still do it if he knew Lionel was dying? It's hard to tell.
Lionel can't die, by the way. I won't have it.
Bits and pieces:
— Clark cheated Fate with a capital F. Again.
— Adam killed a whole bunch of people in this one. And he seemed so nice back when he was helping Lana with her physical therapy.
— Loved the "faster than a speeding bullet" effect, with Clark hearing the shot fired on the phone, and outracing it before it hit Lana. Although the physics were probably wonky, with sound so much slower than light.
— So much for Dr. Tang.
— Pete left his uncharacteristic criminal days behind him and was manning the teen crisis hotline.
— Tom Welling's hair looked a bit shorter than usual. It was odd to see him not looking like Prince Valiant.

Actually, they did explain why the call went to the hotline, with Lana saying she called there because she knew Clark would be there.
ReplyDeleteI like this one because I like time travel and I absolutely love the reveal about Lionel's illness at the end. SO did not see that one coming, but it explains a bit.
ReplyDeleteNot sorry to see Adam go, but very sorry to Ian Somerhalder go. He just lights up my life when he is on my television screen. Plus, he is very, very good at playing bad.
Lol I remember something was wonky with our DVD set for this episode where the audio for Adam screaming "YOU LIED TO MEH!!!" would suddenly not only play at what feels like 5x the volume, but was also delayed by a solid few seconds so that someone else will start talking until you suddenly hear it blare into your ears. It actually always made me jump even after me and my sisters memorized it and replayed the audio f*ck-up to death for our never-dwindling amusement
