Smallville: Instinct

Jimmy: "Looks like I stumbled into the razor wires surrounding the Clark issue again."

Nine-and-a-half weeks in an elevator. That was new.

When Clark pulled out the Lana necklace, I actually moaned out loud. But this episode made me (again, because I'm gullible) take heart that Clark was finally, finally, FINALLY going to move on.

Chloe's massive love note to Clark resurfaced and everyone saw it and talked about it. I really liked that Clark finally saw it. He should have seen it years ago, when Chloe wrote it. And Lois was noticably jealous of Maxima, Queen of Almerack. I could swear I felt a clinch coming on, and I couldn't even tell who the lucky woman would be. (As in Lois or Chloe, not the alien dominatrix mistress of pain.) It didn't happen, of course, but still. Lois turned down Clark's invitation to move back to the Kent farm. That felt like she was finally seeing Clark as a guy for once. Maybe he's finally ready for a little less sweet vanilla and a little more wild cherry.

Jimmy got a mondo inadvertent faithfulness test, and failed miserably. And he knows that Chloe loved Clark much more than she ever loved him. I don't think this relationship is going to make it down the aisle.

"X" has the blue crystal that will bring back Jor-El and the Fortress. Who is X? I'm hoping for Lex, of course. Again, and I know I'm repeating myself, but I hated seeing Tess in Lex's mansion. Yes, I know that they need to film her at home/work somewhere, and Lex will eventually return as a guest star, but it still really bothers me.

Bits and pieces:

— I really like Clark's classier clothes. Tom Welling looks fabulous in them, and I was soooo tired of flannel. I bet he was, too.

— Clark's only roommate at the farm these days is Shelby the dog. And it looks like it'll stay that way.

— I stopped counting my Smallville "hits" a long time ago. (They were 1. car crashes, 2. someone being thrown across a room, and 3. glass breaking.) Lois being tossed across the street while still in her car qualified as all three at the same time.

— Considering the plot of this episode, an "alien hard drive" just struck me as a very silly pun.

Encouraging. Nearly three stars,

Billie

Billie Doux had a love-hate relationship with Smallville, which is why some of her reviews are briefer than they should be.

I was thinking that they all look older this season. A much better (and more realistic) look on them all.

  2. Someone noticing someone else superspeeding is such a cool effect
