Revenge: Illusion

"You win with the steely eyes."

While this hour was not as thrilling as last week's stunner, it was still a very solid offering from a show that's slowly but surely finding its footing again after a somewhat rough start to the season.

What I most loved about this episode was the fact that Emily was back in full Revenge mode. She was conniving, deceitful, and always one step ahead of her targets. I loved that about her in season one, and I'm glad she's back to those sinister ways. The montage at the end revealing all of her tricks and ploys throughout the episode (like how she planted Gordon's body) were so very welcome and reminded me of similar satisfying moments from the first season.

Although I'm not a big fan of The Initiative arc (I've made that very clear countless times), I'm undoubtedly intrigued to see what they're cooking up. I do hope their next plot is epic and explosive (literally). It's going to be interesting to watch Victoria and Conrad deal with this covert agency, and what side of the war they'll take.

And finally, it's about time somebody else discovered Emily's secret! Now with Mason on her trail (in an excellent little misdirection with the wall of evidence being his and not Emily's), things are definitely going to get very exciting. I can't wait to see how Emily will handle that little pest; here's hoping she's especially violent.

Vengeful Bits

- Emily in the red dress... wow! I'll say it again: Emily VanCamp keeps getting more and more gorgeous as the show goes on.

- Conrad offering Victoria that bazillion dollar gun was kind of touching.

- I really enjoyed Emily and Daniel dancing together at the wedding. I actually miss these two.

- Victoria's half-smile during Conrad's arrest was funny. But the look on Emily's face was priceless and oh, so devious. What a woman!

- Every time Kara is on screen, I feel like she's going to snap. I seriously thought she was going to push Victoria off the balcony.

- Electric scene with Aiden by the fireplace. Really love their history and their chemistry.

Devious Delights

Victoria: Learn to take a joke, Conrad, since we're perpetrating one.

Aiden: There's a prince next door who's very eager to be a king.

Nolan: (to Emily and Aiden) Emms... Mr. Bond.

Nolan: (to Emily) Having Conrad arrested on the day of his wedding... now that's a revenge all star opportunity.

- An intriguing and solid hour from Revenge's sophomore season.

3.5 out of 5 diamond guns.

  1. Great review Nadim!

Totally agree that Emily is gorgeous, and that dress was amazing. I'm also glad she's back to her conniving ways. I've totally been into this season so far.

One little thing that I hate to quibble about, but I think you used the feminine version of Daniel's name.

  2. Allo, Nadim.
I also thought that Kara will push Queen V over the balcony because of the slo-mo thing.
Great suspense move by the director there.
The look on Victoria's face was divine. :)
I like Ems with Aiden though.
Is it asking too much if I really wish for Jack and Declan to sell the bar and sail to China?
    Nice review, Nadim.
    Have a nice day!

  3. Hmmm... Danielle??? I didn't know the Greyson heir had changed sex between episodes! :p

Emily in the red dress. That could be a sentence for Picard to use on Darmok to state "drop-dead gorgeous". ;o)

Mason Treadwell is a snake! I really hope Emily takes him down permanently!

The one thing that was kind of nagging me in this episode is the friendlyness between Aidan and Emily after last week's face-off and his egging on Daniel into looking into NolCorp...

  6. I'm enjoying this season much more as we get back onto stories about Emily's revenge. I just love watching her take someone down -- it's been a while and it was so much fun to see again.

Love that Mason seems to have figured it out. Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.

    Great review, Nadim.
