About Us: Lamounier

Next in our holiday Q&A is Lamounier, who has been writing for us for two years but who has been posting terrific comments much longer than that.

What area of the world do you live in, and what do you do in real life? (Because we all know you don't make any money doing this.)

I live in São Paulo, Brazil, although originally I'm from Recife, a city in the Northeast region of the country. I'm an electronics engineer in Brazilian Air Force.

What show or shows are you covering for Doux Reviews? Why those particular shows?

At first I was a reader, then I posted comments anonymously, then I created a Google ID. Eventually I started flirting with the idea of becoming an Agent of D.O.U.X.

When 3% came along, it seemed like the perfect fit. It was a Brazilian sci-fi show, I'm Brazilian and this is a blog that focuses on genre shows. I wasn't crazy about the first few episodes, but the series was interesting enough to warrant my time to review it. I don't want to sound arrogant, it's just that reviewing is very time consuming, so why would I review something I disliked altogether? Thankfully, I grew to like and enjoy 3%, which is why I still review it.

Sense8 happened naturally. I was a fan of the show, reviewed the Christmas Special, then when season two came along I decided to review it as well. And I promise I'll finish season one, you guys.

I took over reviewing duties for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the middle of season four, which is funny considering I had stopped watching the show during season three. I think I was lucky, because seasons four and five are definitely my favorite ones.

Which TV character do you identify with the most, and why?

A few years ago, I'd say Tara Maclay, from Buffy. Being an introvert, having a super religious family who disapproves of my magic-filled life, and finding my voice when a dancing demon comes to town? Check, check and trying-to-be-cute-here check. My friends have stated, though, that as I grew older I became less sweet and way more bitter, and I don't know which character that is.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?

Teleportation. I would use it to get to my workplace in a heartbeat, which would mean more time to sleep and that's the best usage of a superpower, hands down, am I right? I would also use it to travel around the world, of course.

What's your favorite television show of all time? (Okay, top few will do if you can't narrow it down to one.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, forever amen. The Good Place is a current favorite.

What is your favorite reality show, and why?

There is only one I watch, so that's an easy pick: RuPaul's Drag Race. However, I haven't finished the latest season (ten), nor the latest All Stars season (three). I'm in a bit of a burnout from the show, I guess.

Marvel or DC?

I'm not a comic book person, but based on the movies and TV universes, Marvel. Also, as a kid, I watched the X-Men animated series, and they were by far my favorite superheros. Storm, I love you, and the movies have failed you.

Cats or dogs? Or is there some other animal involved?

I grew up being a dog person, but we lived in an apartment and no dog would last there longer than two months. Cue my mother: "Sorry, son, it's not a place to have dogs." Bear in mind that my mother is Monica from Friends when it comes to cleaning, and that's not an exaggeration, so our attempts to have a dog were always short-lived.

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine rescued a cat from the streets. He and his husband already had a cat, and their cat hated the new companion. So I adopted the rescued one, and that's how I became a cat person. I named him Borrão (Blur, in Portuguese), and later adopted a second one, Rabisco (Doddle). Thankfully, they get along very well. :)

What random skill would our readers be surprised to know you have?

Not really a random skill, but something I do from time to time: I officiate weddings. You can find me on Instagram at lamouniercelebrante.

I can also burp the alphabet.

What is your most wished for holiday gift?

That's a lovely question. I have a personal wish, but it's super personal, so I guess I'll have to close out this interview on a cliffhanger.

  1. Yay for another writer in the cat column! Honestly, I hadn't intended this to become a cat versus dog competition, but it's kinda becoming one, isn't it?

I'm so glad you decided to take the leap and write for us, Lamounier. :)

  2. I'd say SHIELD S5 was probably the worst so far but your reviews still offered some good material.

"My friends have stated, though, that as I grew older I became less sweet and way more bitter, and I don't know which character that is."

That could either be Willow or Simmons off the top of my head.

  3. Oh my, two years. :)

Billie, it is becoming a competition. I wonder which group will come out as the winner. (:

televisionandotherrantings, Simmons is actually a very good match.

  5. YES!!! Someone who gets the wonderfulness of teleportation!!!

I just commented on Billie's profile that if she wants to travel that's the needed superpower! It would save me the 30h trip I'm starting in the morning... But would also be brilliant for an extra 30' of sleep every day! :)

We love comments! We moderate because of spam and trolls, but don't let that stop you! It’s never too late to comment on an old show, but please don’t spoil future episodes for newbies.
