With Oscar viewership already in steep decline, the Academy has outdone itself by finding a new way to alienate itself from movie lovers.
In a year when producers were praying their movies would just break even, Greta Gerwig spun straw into gold when she turned the story of a plastic toy into the highest grossing movie of the year, but the Oscars are going to treat Barbie like a cute Saturday morning cartoon.

2021 Best Picture Contenders
by
ChrisB
The best line of the year:
"I didn't want my sailboat to be in the driveway when I died."
-- Nomadland
I love to go to the movies. I actually prefer to go the movies by myself. I sit where I want with a bag of popcorn and a bottle of water and lose myself completely in the story. I tend to laugh out loud and cry at the silliest things. Alone, I don't have to worry about whether my companion is having any fun. If I love the movie, I can give into it completely. If I hate it, I can leave.
For obvious reasons, I did not get to any movies to speak of in 2020. But, for the past few years I have made a point of seeing all the nominated Best Picture movies before the Oscars. To my surprise, when the nominees were announced this year, I had only seen one. I had my work cut out for me.

Here we go! After nearly two months of warm-up award shows, we have made it to the big one. Tonight was the Academy Awards. sunbunny and I (ChrisB) were there (via our televisions) for the red carpet and the ceremony. Here are our impressions of the night.
The Academy Awards 2015: Nominees

This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released their nominations for the Oscars. I got up in time to see the live stream which was, finally, underwhelming except for watching these poor people struggle with the names at the crack of dawn.
2014 Oscars

The biggest night of the year in Hollywood is often not worth the time we put into it. The Oscar ceremony can be too long, too silly, and way too self-reverent. This year's ceremony was a breath of fresh air. Funny and filled with clip segments that truly showed the best of the best, I loved it. By the way, this is ChrisB. sunbunny will be along with the fashions in a bit.

The 2013 Oscars

It’s finally here. Capping off an awards season that has seen a lot of repetition in awarding various statues, we have made it to the 85th Academy Awards or Oscars. This is the big one, folks. Note: the stuff with substance was written entirely by ChrisB. The fashion stuff at the bottom is by me, sunbunny.
Academy Award Nominations (2013)
I'm a little disappointed, since several of my favorites were basically snubbed entirely. This nomination list is kind of unsurprising. There were a few nice nods in the acting categories, but for the most part this list is standard fare.

This week: Returns and premieres -- Cancellation anxiety, especially for Fringe -- Another "new Lost" strikes out? -- Do I even have to talk about the Oscars? -- Bits and pieces -- Reader of the week -- Tweet of the week -- New at Doux
Welcome to our new weekly column! We had quite a discussion in the virtual writer's room about what to call it, and although I initially wanted something weirder, I think I'm happy with the simplicity of Doux News.
